Ah yes, the customer that leaves you hanging. Joy and I have many great conversations about that. Oh, we understand when something happens, of course, but we also get ticked off when they are just plain out rude.

I had just such a customer, nagged me about wanting more pullets to go with the trio I sold him. I finally found some girls that were not breeders for me and saw him at the gas station so I told him they were available. He called me to set up a time, called me back to cancel and we set up another tentative time, still didn't work out so he told me to tell him when would be best since he lives not far from me and can come about any time...... being retired, you know. So the morning he is supposed to come, I gather up the pullets from 3 different pens, get ready for him and doodle around for 30 minutes. Call and left message on his voice mail, waited another 30 minutes before going to close my farm gate and putting the girls back in the pens. I have yet to hear back from him. That was a week ago. I hope nothing serious happened to him or his family but it does tick me off to have to wait on someone when I could be doing a lot of other things.

You want to get mad and sometimes it is justified but then before knowing the whole story I do try to allow some forgiveness there. BUT when I find out they just blew me off for no reason, I don't sell them anything else.

Thank you! I am glad it is not just me that this happens too--I do hope this person is alright and all those other people that have done similar things to me this summer. This has been a bad season for it! I think to some extent people are short on cash and start thinking about whether they need the birds or not--of course they could call and let me know.

Yes, I often do not candle until I put them into the hatcher tub but was just wondering as I know some people will candle throughout incubation. I can never see anything until after 10 days myself.

I just saw a message from usps that Joy got her eggs. Hope they made it in good shape!

I GOT 'EM!!! They're all fine, not a single crack. The eggs look great, they are resting and I will put them in the incubator tomorrow. Thanks so much! I'm so excited, can't wait to candle them at 4 days.

Just kidding - I couldn't resist. I never candle earlier than 7 days and even then I don't trust my eyes. I never take them out until 14 days and then only if I'm sure they're not fertile or aren't growing. I can't imagine opening eggs at 4 days, especially expensive eggs. I'd be like Kimberly - cheering those eggs to grow and maybe even praying over them. Guinea eggs are very hard to see through so I usually don't bother candling until time to move to the hatcher. I'll be sure and let ya'll know how these do. Heidi, my husband is down there at Bamburg Highschool working today. Too bad you're not close enough to send some of those keets back home with him tonight.

I really hate when that happens. I've been pretty lucky, most people really do show up when they're supposed too (some actually come early and surprise me). But I also have some customers that don't bother to call, they just show up without an appt. and that kind of irritates me. My time is stretched as it is and I prefer to know someone is coming and have the opportunity to catch up whatever they're wanting and have them ready. I really don't like providing entertainment of chasing and trying to catch guineas and such with an audience.

Although I have done it, just to make a sell! The things we do.
