Hi Danny! Welcome to BYC and our SC thread.

It looks like you have quite a set up. Seems I have heard your name before but I can't remember from whom or where. I don't live too far from you, I'm east of you over in northern Spartanburg county, next to the Greenville county line.

I saw where you had BLRW and an interesting cross called the Carolina Blue. You should tell us more about this new breed you have that start laying as early as 17 weeks old! What size egg do they lay? They sound like Easter Eggers but can't tell from your description on your website.
Several of us on here have the BLRW and love them.

I'm also curious about the Carolina Blue. Do fill us in

I thought about it but my mom wanted the polish... maybe next time i can get the speckled I love their big black spots.
Pink

he is from hampton s.c. his first name is wilbur i can get his telephone number for you if you want it

thanks I hated that I didn't remember.. and the silver spangles hamburgs. wow that's a mouthful.. not speckled hahah they were really cool..

Amy, My little black girl Weezy is just not right,,, two days in the house now. I don't know if i got her sick when I cooled her down and dropped her temp? all she wants to do is puff up and try to sleep. she even gasps for breaths.( which is keeping her from sleeping . she isn't rattling in her chest like congestion, she has lost any weight she had, shes just a wrack of bones, shes soooo tired but she just cant sleep, every once on a while she'll kind of sneeze/cough like,,, I am NOT putting her back out even if she does get over this. Just in case its something other than her having heat stroke which I really think she did.. she still cant stand for long and she falls over to the right side she sits upright but wont walk for me.. I have her sitting here with me next to the computer she seams to like the sound of the keys typing. and she has a little fan that I have osculating she likes it too.. I don't know what to say about her. I hate to put her down if there is a chance she can recoup from this. but if she doesn't start eating that may not be a worry anyway. I just don't know what else to do with her.. I did worm her with panacure even though they
were wormed last month.. just to make sure.

And oMG about the stolen birds.. times are hard and thsi is when the thieves come out.. I hope they made a police report. it is so important yup even for chickens.. its not just what the birds are worth today its what the birds future worth including their offspring worth and a families livelihood and food.. a few years ago back when we had a real low in economy I know yall remember when Im talking about.. we had 6 show dogs stolen.. about $3k worth of dogs not to mention what their breeding and pups would bring, come to find out there was a big ring of thieves, they were stealing dogs here and taking them to Canada and selling them up there.. it all came down to money they dont care if they get it $5 at a time or 100 at a time.. . they will also steal and use chickens as a first line in training fighting dogs to kill.. then they move up to stealing little dogs to kill then the bigger ones.. these are bad times and the worst of the people is going to come out. its a sad day it really is.... It very well be time for you to limit your farm visits,,, oh my gosh amy if someone came thru your farm as healthy and friendly as your birds are... scary to think how many they could get before Joli could get them...

be careful everyone.. good luck..

so how do you wrap uop the swap seamed like a success to me.. did everyone sell most of their birds they brought? thanks again for hosting a great event..

I think it was 100,000% better than the one we had in April. More sellers, more buyers, not to mention Tractor Supply was busy so that provided extra buyers and lookers. I sold just about everything I wanted to sell. Had 3 chicks, 1 roo (RIR) make the return trip home...didn't sell. It's nice to sell things, but just to meet everyone and see what everyone has to offer and have locals stop by and talk and look is worth it to me!!

I only brought a few things to sell. I came home only with my serama chick. I think people don't know what seramas are. You guys are silly! They are only the smallest chicken breed and by far the cutest...ok the second part was opinionated...LOL.

I like my one Serama hen. She is funny and cute. I pick her up and pet her.
She insists she has to live with the Silkies so I let her. I love how she is pigeon toed and has glossy black feathers. As a chick she got terribly sick. My friend, the vet that hates chickens, helped me treat her for 2 months and we really thought she was going to die but she bounced back and has been great ever since. I have accidentally hatched numerous chicks from her. <sigh> I can't tell her eggs from Silkie eggs so I had to stop hatching from that pen unless she is broody.
Seramas can be such fabulous pets. They are pretty hardy and are little characters.
Sarah may be my one and only and she may not be exactly what a show bird should be but I know she will have a forever home here.

Yes, it sounds like she's broody. You might need to have a talk with Guinea Boy as he is supposed to stand guard and protect her and keep her company. Hopefully she has picked a spot very close by so Jolie can watch out for her.

Pink, have you checked your little hen's crop? I know it seems a lot of people are having impacted crop issues this year too. Just a thought. Are you giving her any kind of antibiotic?

I have looked all around their favorite spots but can't find her nest.
I find him close to the barn so I wonder if she is, too. I found him in the tall weeds dust bathing a few minutes ago right by the Muscovy pen but could not find her.
He is not very good protection for her, of course, so Jolie will probably step up. She has done such a great job with the ducks. I imagine I will find her nest before long if I can watch Jolie going off to do her "business".

She was good to have piles of poop all around the ducks nests. I guess that covered most any smell a duck gives off and makes sure predators know a dog is very close.
