My PM didnt seem to work earlier. My Ameraucana roo is nine weeks old and came from Susanna at Huckleberry Farm. Lou Ann just wants to keep her neighbors happy so would like to rehome him. He is free and we could meet you halfway somewhere if you are interested.

oh I hate it when neighbors get all bossy and huffy... I didn't get the pm? I come to Greenville often. usually Fridays are good that's my big running around paying bills day.. I have ppd meetings every other Thursday downtown Greenville by the hospital ( tomorrow night) . pm me and let me know where you are in g'ville. so we can see when I can get him and keep the huffy
neighbor from complaining..

Pink

I've sent you a PM and it should have worked this time. I can easily meet up with you tomorrow night if you would like.

Just curious: What is their on going science project? My 11 yr old is enrolled in a Virtual Charter School. They require a long term science project every year. I will not be prepared this school year but I thought next school year, a project on where our food comes from might work. Thanks.

You're welcome anytime!

I think I had talked about doing a bbq/party but it's too hot and we don't have any trees. Maybe this fall!

My mother-in-law stopped by for dinner and by the time she left last night, it was too dark for pictures. I'll try to get one this am before they go into hiding.

If Susanne runs out I have some growing up that will be headed for freezer camp in another 2 months. I have a few blues, blacks, reds, whites and mixed colors like wheaten and splash. Mine are much younger than Susanne's so color hasn't come together on some of them yet. She is much closer to where you live so that would be your best route.

And I still have a lot hatching in the 'bator but a lot of those are staying unless they are not a nice lavender color. I am trying to keep all my lavender Ameraucanas until they are mature and I can see the shades so I can pick the best roos from those groups.

Do you know, I only have 2 EE girls left? And only one Olive Egger that is laying age. I have girls growing up that I have not sold and do not plan to until I see egg color. I can't seem to hang on to what I need for future breeding programs.
hmm.png

I know your running low on your EE's I had no idea so many people liked them , everytime you get a few built up you sell out again..

I used to have a nice flock of 10 girls and a roo. A man drove down from Raleigh last year and bought 30 chicks at once so that took care of me replacing some older hens and then through the winter people just kept asking for chicks and hens and I kept selling. Some of my older ladies passed away, one was taken by a fox before I got Jolie and when my roo lunged at my face he went in the freezer a while back.
I have a lot of youngsters growing up in EE and OE and Ameraucana but it will be next spring before they are laying the nice big eggs.
I do have a blue Ameraucana hen that lays but there isn't a roo to go with her so she is in with my Golden Cuckoo Marans roo. I have have hatched OEs from them and am getting blue pullets so those can go into my EE/OE flock. I have gotten some blue barred little roos from that cross but those go in the freezer.

I am building back up but it is going to take me a while. After all this time of trying to figure out which birds I really want I am now itching to actually have the flocks. My problem is loving them all and wanting some of everything!

ya know Amy Nadine, I don't think we are doing anything on labor day and I would be happy to come and help ya'll process, let me know..

I don't know, you know me.. I'll be tempted to run off with one in my arms screaming no, no, not this one, if I fall for one of the boys..l hahhahah...

speaking of your boys.. Midas.. oooh wee, he's getting pretty ..getting all his long saddle feathers and collar feathers. He and the new little bantam polish are having evening crow offs.. they have these high voices and then he runnbles his.. soo funny . its like "Marco- -- polo" in chicken.

I love that! Marco...Polo!
Yes, the 3 or 4 boys I have left from that cross are so pretty. They don't go after the pullets yet and are so easy to deal with. I always hate taking out those boys but I can't keep them all.
You are welcome to come, Pink! Maybe you can teach us something new that we do not know or have thought of. We have an older gentleman coming that hasn't done this in more than 40 years and is wanting to see how we do ours. He is starting to raise chickens again and knows he has too many roos so he needs to get acquainted again with the process. And he doesn't see how we just take the portions of meat that we do.

Hi.........Northern Spartanburg County here.......near NC line & Cherokee County SC line.

There is an all bantam show in November at Clemson

There were a LOT of old english game bantams there last year. And I mean a LOT. It is held at the T Ed Garrison complex. Once I find out more about this years show, I will post on this thread .... Someone usually posts in the Chickenstocks & Shows section........

I just want to share a little something this morning and see if others have done the same and what people think. As some of you remember I have hatched out 2 peachicks. They will be 2 weeks this Friday/Saturday. When I put them in the brooder I put them on a regiment of electrolytes, which I often do for new hatchlings. Although they were eating well from what I could tell(they had the 2 keets in with them)I saw that both had really watery droppings. The smallest one sometimes would stand and close her eyes and almost fall over like she was going to sleep. I ran them two day on a full dose of Sulmet(2 table spoons per gal) and today I'm running them on 1/2 a dose. This morning I watched both of them get up, and while watching me, poop the nicest little dry piles I have seen from any baby bird!! And both birds are very alert and inquisitive now--no more closed eye, sleepiness!!

I have used sulmet before on batches of chicks that have had runny dropping and were looking droopy with great results but with these peachicks I was a little hesitant. Sulmet is an antibacterial and I believe I read a thread not long ago where Amy recommended it for something similar. Amy, if you use it for an antibacterial purposes do you run them the full time like a dose for cocci? That is what I have been doing in the past but not sure if that is over kill for a bacterial enteretis(sp?). I do not like to over medicate my birds with anything but under medicating can be just as bad--plus, I do not need to develop any super bugs around here. I have been told that under medicating when your birds have a touch of Salmonella can do that--more a problem with guineas and gamefowl than chickens.

I would like to hear what other people do for their droopy chick, keets, and chickens. Do people use apple cider vinagar in their water? DE in food? Yogurt? Oatmeal? and how do you get them to really eat the oatmeal--grind it? I have been told not to offer sweets or fruit to sick birds as the sugars can aggravate their condition--what have you heard or found out?
