I can't wait to start our chickens on this. We are just finishing up their old feed now. The people at Williams were sonice. We did drive right past it the first time, and then I told Lou Ann I had a feeling it was the place with all the grain silos! We got two bags of chick starter. Once they are gone, they will be ready for laying mash!

OH! Now I'm getting excited - so you're finding that blue to black = 100% BLUE? I was told that blue to splash = 100% blue and that was my plan as I want more blue marans. Now I'm wondering if I need to put the blue roo with the black hens and the black roo with the blue hens and leave the splash group all together. I might finally get some blue birds from somewhere!

One thing I've found interesting - in my standard blue cochin pen I only have blues (blue roo and blue hens) but I'm getting 95% blue birds. I have thrown the occasional blue and white cochin but only 1 black cochin. Most of them were solid blue. I've been very surprised with them.

I hatched using Matt's list below this year. Used Black to Splash and got 100 % Blue.

>For future reference:
>Black X Splash = 100% Blue
>Black X Black = 100% Black
>Black X Blue = 50% Blue, 50% Black
>Blue X Blue = 25% Black(sports), 50% Blue, and 25% Splash
>Blue X Splash = 50% Blue and 50% Splash
>Splash X Splash = 100% Splash

>If you are breeding blues it is good to keep pure Blacks around to breed back into them to keep the coloring clean and sharp in the Blues. If >you are breeding Splashes you don't want to breed Splash to Splash for more then a couple generations. You will end up getting washed out >birds with very few splashes in the coloring.

I took a genetics course years ago and then years after that I did some research on breeding parakeets(which i Loved) Genetics are like poker the stronger the gene the more it will win over other hands. Then when it comes to splits(like blues) then its a 50/50 whats great is when you throw a white gene in there and let the cards(chicks) fall....since white is recessive it just may show up and mix things up abit! I once breed a blue parakeet to solid yellow parakeet which are both recessive and came out with some beautiful Aqua colored parakeet. Genes are so fun to play with!!! Soon maybe we'll see what a Blue Roo and Buff Chicken comes out with....I bet it will be a Black Chicken(roo or hen)! Hopefully we'll see!!!!

So today I let my flock roam my backyard and I decided to eat my sandwich and watch them. My big rir hopped in my lap to steal it so I twisted my arm back and as I did my white leghorn stole my whole sandwich and ran off with it!!! She then shared it amongst the flock (without choice...they stole pieces from her) and I lost my lunch!

And my sultan pullet PURRED today. She was so happy to see me. Marilyn came hopping on the deck, curled in my lap and seriously purred a few seconds as she got comfy! And I've only had this chicken a week! Those who didn't get a sultan at the swap last week totally missed out!!!

Hi everyone. So here is how I make my fried oreos.

Just mix up your favorite pancake batter (1 serving size is good enough for about 10-12 oreos) Put in your oreo's and coat both side real well. Drop into a fry daddy on fairly high heat and let cook for about a min -min and a half, flip over and do the same. Take out, drain and enjoy. Be careful they are very hot. But the oreo is soft in the middle and sooo good. You can sprinkle powdered sugar on them if you want to, but minde don't last long enough for that.

Disclaimer - BIG TIME SUGAR RUSH
Disclaimer 2 - you can't eat just one.

Hey BillyJ is Elvis a total A$$...Cause Bleu his brother is always testing me and he's been kicked in the chest twice. But he will still eat from my hand. but if I turn my back his loud self comes a running, oh and if my father stopps by to let the chickens out he trys to bum rush him too.... Just wondering! But I will say this he watches over his flock very well!!! and nothing gets past him...

Oh and if you missed it You should try Reece's Cups the way you make oreo's!!!!!
