South Carolina

:)Hello all; Let tell you about my morning. My two jack russell's awakened me this morning at o5:30 so I turned on the back yard light. and I opened the back door to let them out ,& was greeted by all of my roo's taking their turn crowing. they must have crowed four or five times each one after another . I have seven roo's . so at the begining of this I thought it was kind of neat \\/cool but as the crowing continued I started to wish that they would be quiet. since I could see the neihbors around me with their lights on getting ready for work. luckly I am in an area zoned agriculture. Still I'm trying to stay on good terms with the neihbors .so when it wsa light I did the chicken house keeping/cleaning raking ,cleaned the waterers sprayed vinegar and water solution inside & outsiide the coop. spread D E inside the coop to control any oder and any little critters, that the coop might have. I do this about once a week. it was so dark at 5:30 I could see the constellation of ORION wich means we are getting closer to fall ... this being the end of August. Won't be too many weeks moe till it cool's off .I had 66 degees this morning at 6:00 am.

this !!!! Just Beautiful!
and when you add plants make sure to get drought resistant and maybe deer resistant... maybe two Miscanthus sinensis ( Zebra Grass ) on either side and some fushia colored double-knock out roses underneath. LOW/NO maintence and pretty from spring to the end of fall, Just a few ideas I love to garden and have both these plants, and wish my yard was full of them cause I do nothing to them at all, except cut zebra grass down in late fall and do one good pruning to the rose bush mid feb. Hope this helps with ideas!

I love Knockout Roses. They are so pretty and maintenance-free! Thanks for the ideas!

Yancy, you probably cringed when you saw my yard! I would love to set out flowers and plants of all sorts but the chickens and ducks "help" too much so I gave up. Some stuff does survive well but I lost a lot of Iris (my favorite and easiest plant) when the ducks decided to help.
I should change the name to Wild Acres farm! The animals run wild and the flowers and weeds do, too!

Nope, no eggs yet. she put a dog house in their pen ( my girls love their doghouse for laying , but their big standaard sized girls too?) dont know i=f that makes a difference.. Wonder what is the best nest box for the little girls?

same for Colton's little BB bantams.. he is breeding the girls but no eggs. so I wonder if its becasue i dont have the right kind of box/privecy..

the EEs I got at the chickenstock ( only one is a ameracauna i think ) they aren't laying yet wither and all my EEs should be old enough or within a week or so.

Oh Pink...I know how you feel...I want sooo many more!!! If you only have 4 laying then thats all the chickens you have!!! Better get some more! None of mine are laying yet and my mom got a flock of mixed that lay EVERY DAY!!! ahhhh...We have provided her Polish gal with some variety to lay in ...I am hoping she is just young still, same with my self blue hen...no egg...and both my silkies are crowing now!!

Good news is Lucky(my FAVORITE BLRW that my dog tried to murder) Crowed his first real crow yesterday,he had stopped trying after the assasination attempt! Its cute,I have the 2 BLRW roos and 2 RIR hens...they get along so well and are paired off as couples in the same run!!

I am planning on going to Augusta too...we will have to make a convoy! I am also waiting to hear on another self blue hen...He says it may be a few weeks though before he has one he can be sure is hen! My bday is next week so fingers are crossed!

And I LOVE the earl song!!! Now I will be singing it all day!

clap.gif

I real;y think I will go to the 4-h show and pullet auction.. they will all either be laying or at the point of laying.. think Ill check it out. still...its in Abbeville are y9u going.. ? it'll be right down the road fro ya'll. ?

I tell ya what. My mom is hooked.... she adores the polish.. so we call them hers of course.. and they are like your pairs.. they are just fine with being together and are defenatly 2 fixed pairs.

then she saw the Frizzeled Sizzeled
droolin.gif
and I had to keep pulling her away.
love.gif
. she is seriously thinking of different colors of polish now. we'll see I love the blues and the reds ...

I tell you ti get a real Ameracauna and not a EE is proving to be as difficult as finding LF cochin hens for Midas... no one has them! I thin they are what we need to work on. the ones no one can find. everyone has the little banties but not the LF.. I like the duel purpose of the LF chickens.. more bang for the buck so to speak..
thumbsup.gif
lets face it I need more Bang..
lau.gif
wait more bucks?
gig.gif
Ah heck I need it all bang and bucks
