They're doing great Heidi! Thanks for asking. I only had 2 eggs that didn't pip and 1 that pipped but didn't hatch. And I've lost one little keet that somehow managed to get stuck between the drinker and the brooder wall. They do seem to find trouble. But the others are doing great and I will try to get a picture of them again soon. They are beautiful colors, some I didn't have so I am thrilled. Just can't wait to see for sure what they are.

My SDW's are starting to lay again and I'm hoping the white OE will start too so I can send you both. If the whites don't lay soon, I will send you the SDW eggs now and the whites later. I really want to get some to you before cold weather sets in for good.

How exciting!!

Just let me know if the little girls get busy~the only eggs in the incubator are the marans eggs and 4 OEGB's from my BBReds. The marans are due to hatch next Wed/Thurs. Two of the oegb eggs are due to hatch tomorrow and 2 just after the marans but I really do not mind shutting the bator down and cleaning it good again if time permits(or not!).

My little BBReds have never started laying regular and they are suppose to be last year birds. They act more like old hens than young ones--only one hen has ever laid and she lays 2 eggs then stops for about a week or 2 then she lays a couple more and stops again for a while. Do you have a light on yours or anything like that?

If you'd rather wait to spring, just let me know. It's up to you, makes no difference to me. I can start collecting the SDW's now and send you some next week if you want. The white OE is not reliable and she may not lay again until Spring. If that's the case, I will send you more SDW's with her eggs as I only have one white hen. My BB Red hen has never laid well. And she was a chick when I got her so I know she's not old but she is over the one year mark now. She laid about 3 eggs and quit. She NEVER lays. I'm so disappointed, I really wanted some of her babies. And my whites are not nearly as hardy as the SDW's. I guess I was spoiled with my SDW's, they are great layers and hardy birds. Not sure if it's the breed or the bloodline. I don't have a light on mine.

Sigh. So. My dear rooster whose been through so much this year has some weird thing going on and his face is swollen!

people have been helping me in the emergency section. Tired of my large fowl having issues!!! I haven't even introduced anything to them in months! It's just a run of pure bad luck.

Joy, that would be fine to get some of the SDW eggs now. Maybe we could trade some BBRed's eggs for Whites in the spring if you would like some of my BBRed's and I can get my two girls to lay. If the Whites tend not to be hardy it might be better to hatch them in the spring anyway. Let me know what you want to do and pm me with the details!!

Welcome to all the new people I see online in the last few days!

And my elusive skunk kid is sly...borrowed a live-trap and it did as I thought...caught my wild outside mousing cat twice so far...no skunk...but that smelly bugger is somewhere close...and his/her days are numbered! LOL

Why is it when I see something laying around I've had for years...suddenly since I have been "chickenized" - I see a chicken use for everything?
