Susanne, Yes I would love to have a pretty rooster and also purchase some eggs if you have any.

I have been hanging out on the Marans thread and now I wish I had not. Has anyone here seen the discussion on the carnation combs in the marans? I am not sure where it comes from but it sounds like a lot of people are having problems with it. What do you guys think? Is it a really big issue if you are not going to show your birds? Aren't breeder of marans working toward egg color? If you have a rooster or hen that throws beautiful eggs but has a funky comb should you cull it?

I have a cuckoo Maran that has a funky looking comb but she lays a beautiful egg. I guess she is not up to standard but she is beautiful in my eyes and everyone that see her eggs loves them.

Talking about pretty roosters reminds me I need to take photos of the roo I got from phoneman some time ago. He's a blue laced red Wyandotte and absolutely handsome!!! I better not dote on him being too cute though or he will be the next on the list to get sick out of my chickens. (eyes rolling) its always my faves!

y'all are killing me! I've been reallllly trying to talk myself out of adding anymore breeds but I LOVE the wheaten and blue wheatens!! aghhh!

I love them too but had the worst time hatching them! You have no idea how many eggs I had to buy to get this little flock! Hoping I can hatch some babies to supplement the girls!

i had the same problem with the wheaton ameraucanas also. so instead of buying eggs, i bought a breeders flock that were 2 to 4 years old. and i thought i could get enough eggs to get my breeders from. they have not layed to good but now i have 6 pulletts and about 8 cockerls. now these young ones sure looks good. i also bought his blacks, blues and splash. i have left about 15 blacks all but 3 are pulletts. the blacks hatched out better than any other colors

Well made it back from the Cruise.. took the Carnival Fantasy out of Charleston.. fantastic trip not one bad thing to say about the entire experience so much that a we are planning on going next year over the thanksgiving vacation.. cant beat the cost either.. it was like $300. each including taxes.. then we had a $50. gratuity.. cant beat it.. we went to freeport and Nassau. went to Atlantis.. that place is sooo big. great aquariums but I wouldn't want to stay there its just too big and impersonal. I can see why the stars go there though they can just blend in there are so many people there..

and ... I came home to only one death in my flock./ one of the BB bantams... really unexpected she was fine not sick eating like a little piggy. only thing i can figure is that she was ready to lay eggs and got egg bound somehow. I don't know.. i still have the four little meatie chicks left, cant believe they lived and I knew they were sick.. they are so far behind on weight now not going to take them and have them processed with everyone else.. hopefully they will live long enough to start gaining weight again to process them at home..

glad to be back
