Oh and in all the eggcitment I forgot to tell ya'll my self blue OEGB laid her first egg today!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its sooo tiny!!! Hehe

I'm just thankful you stay one step ahead of me and can advise me...let them Ameracaunas start laying and I will have bators over here...I just have such a cold drafty house...I have 2 Golden Comets and 2 Polish so far to add to your next hatching!!!

I have a question for you guys. I asked it a few pages back (sometime yesterday), but think it got lost in all the hatching excitement. The girls that Lou Ann and I have at her house will be 20 weeks old on Monday. The SLW's are showing the most development in wattles and earlobes and some comb development. They are definitely the reddest. The Buff Orps are trying to catch up and the Marans and Ameraucana are the last two. My question is when to start putting out oyster shell for them since they are on chick starter still. Also, is it okay for them to be on chick starter, as long as they have oyster shell available? I can't believe we may actually have eggs in a month or two. If it was earlier in the year, I would think a month, but I know the shorter days may delay the girls a bit.

You can mix the layer with the chick starter to begin with if you want to but usually they eat the layer really well. Whenever you start them on the layer, you can offer oyster shell free choice and they will eat it when they need it.

Sorry - I just saw that your pullets are 20 weeks old. You really need to have them on layer if you want them to start laying as early as possible. They need that nutrition now.
