OK guys, how do you do it? Debi - you always get fabulous pics of your birds. All I can catch are blurs. I've been trying to get a few pics of some speckled sussex I got from phoneman for him, and all I got are a couple of shots of their backs when I threw scratch down around my feet. The fact that I have no photographic talent could have something to do with it.

As a professional photographer, I would recommend using a camera with a flash. Even when you are outside in the sun. Also, speed up the camera by changing the "ISO speed" to 800. That should take out some of the blur. For those with a tripod ($20) and a remote shutter button it works even better, because there is no camera shake.

Thanks David, I'll try that! The son that isn't at home anymore had a real eye for photography. He didn't get it from me! Looking forward to next weekend! I stalk your CRSA thread all the time because I work right on the Lexington-Aiken border, could toss a rock across the Edisto.

I hope it works for you. Using a flash in daylight, makes shadows much lighter. I'll see you next week.

Take photos in the morning. That is the best time to get great photos. I take a lot of mine in the morning and get great results. Don't use the flash outside unless you have to. I would recommend a high shutter speed too. In the bright morning you need to lower your iso. I sometimes drop mine to 400 or so. I use a canon rebel. I have a grandfather who does professional grade photography.

Oh, and I forgot to update you guys on how the lone little BCM did. I'm afraid it didn't end well. He was actually standing up when I went to put the splints on his feet, and his feet (except for one toe) had pretty much straightened up, but I could see that his whole body was twisted. He didn't make it. He had fought so hard, I didn't cull him, but he passed this morning.

dixie beast!!! Did you read where the previous owner of our d'Uccles did so great up at Crossroads APA/ABA National Poultry show???? Isn't that fabulous? I am so happy we got some d'Uccles from her!

Yancy, are your babies anywhere as cute as mine?

Don't you just want to cover their tiny little cherub faces with kisses? Look how perfect those beards and muffs are!

I went to the My Pet Chicken website and saw the photos of what they claim are d'Uccles. They show chicks that have rose combs and do not stand correctly to show the top line of the birds. I think they are using photos from another country to display the birds. At least they didn't show roosters with wattles or clean faced birds but still our American standard calls for what we have for breeding.

Now I am looking at pure black ones.......
