Working!
I had a bunch of customers this afternoon. Whew! All at once everyone wanted eggs and chickens. I sold a bunch of bantam Cochins so that helps lighten the load for more feed. And I cleaned out one pen. Only I filled it up again before dark was upon me!

They come from the brooder room!

The top is a white-based Splash and the bottom is a blue-based Splash. That's how I've heard it described. Both are Splash.

Thanks! I believe I have a blue splash hen and roo then. So does blue splash x blue splash give 100% blue? That's what I've been getting.

splash X splash = splash. every time.

If you are getting blues, one of yours is not a splash.

Blue X Blue = 50% Blue, 25% Black, 25% Splash
Blue X Splash = 50% Blue, 50% Splash
Blue X Black = 50% Blue, 50% Black
Splash X Splash = 100% Splash
Splash X Black = 100% Blue
Black X Black = 100% Black

All depending on the genetics of the parent birds, too. You can get odd colors occasionally - such as a white - if the parents have white in their genes

I just love Cowboy for his great personality but he is very handsome, too. You know I don't do blue Mottled too much, though I want to put some girls with my Frizzle roo. I just am not much of a blue bird lover. And though I love golds, I don't care for buff Orps as much.
I do love the blue Mottleds here now though. The kids from Cowboy are striking in color and pose and Cowgirl is a dainty little love package. I enjoy handling her and can't wait until she gives me kids from Dan the Man.
But I am really trying to get my buff Mottled project going. Here is my best pullet I have created so far.....

That explains it!

It seems they pour out more every day!

I swear I am not hatching much anymore. I am sure there are not more a dz a week hatching but they do live in my brooder room up to 3 months old sometimes. It just seems like my brooder room is emptier than it has ever been. I believe someone even commented on it being so bare recently. I am trying to curb my addiction, truly I am!

Ooh, she sure is pretty.

Well, once I get a couple batches out of cowboy, I could send him back to your place lol. We could have a rooster swap every year.....share the good genetics....

Btw, I have a very mottled cochin hen.....I could send her to you with the overly mottled cockerel....then you could have 2 unrelated lines to work with. Use your dark typey rooster on her and your dark type hens on him. Then you can have two lines to fix the mottling.....if you want. She doesn't have the best type, but not the worst. But heavily mottling.......

Beautiful!!!!

Thank you.

I had to start from scratch since no one was breeding this pattern and color. It takes a lot of dedication to make a new variety and if I had more energy then I would be breeding these a lot more but it takes too many pens to work on just one variety and I don;t have the energy to care for any more pens of birds.

Thank you! You can see I still have work to do on type but she is the best I have bred out so far. None of my roos have any great color to put with her and I haven't come across a really nice buff roo to buy for my project. I am hoping to spot one in Clemson but I doubt it. I will probably have to have one shipped in and I need to do it early enough in the project to be able to weed out the undesirable offspring.

Shoot, yeah! I'll take your hen! My dark roo (I actually have several) has great type and I really need more color. I suppose I will have to make a trip up there since those folks are not answering my emails. It bothers me to have people beg me for stuff and then never follow through. And naturally, those are the first folks to holler when they are stood up.

I may eventually get back down there....probably be some nc or sc shows once we hit the new year....nobody is laying now anyways.....

So you can have the super mottled cockerel (he is fiesty), the super mottled hen......and cowboy back eventually. Lol.

Next spring/summer I should have some great breeding stock.....the new black mottled kids will be old enough and these blue mottleds should be right at laying age. Late 2012 or Spring 2013 should be great chick producing time here
