The 2011 Farmer’s Almanac gave its persimmon report recently, which reported mostly spoons throughout the U.S. and a few knives here and there.

If the kernel is spoon-shaped, lots of heavy, wet snow will fall. Spoon = shovel!
If it is fork-shaped, you can expect powdery, light snow and a mild winter.
If the kernel is knife-shaped, expect to be "cut" by ice, cutting winds.

So I was guessing you saw a spoon or a knife/ Ouch! BRRRRRR love the snow we had here last winter though...but I didn't have chickens then either...LOL I did love sitting here where I always sit and looking out and watching the birds in my feeders! I only went out to refill the feeders!

My buff dundotte was out of the trampoline though when I went to look for Cryp. She probably went into the coops with the other Guineas but I will certainly be looking for her in the morning. It just gets dark way too quick now.

Can your girl curl her toes at all to hold on?

I have a guinea like that too, with bad feet. She lives in my nursery yard and gets along just fine. The coop is ground level and has a nice warm nest box on the floor where she sleeps. Not sure if she laid eggs though.

The one in the middle/right has white dots, the other 2, front and back, have what I call chevrons instead of dots. If you were here looking at them you would see the difference as the Lavender does not have the shine the Coral Blues have.

So they really are basically the same color? At least it looks the same to me except for the polka dots. I think mine have polka dots......I'll have to check to be sure. Those dots don't show up early on the keets though so how do you tell them apart when they're small? Thanks for the picture!

money is a problem all around...my problem is I can come up with $3, $6, $10, etc... at a time and my chickens seem to keep multiplying faster than my coops or supply of feed!

But not to worry...THEY will eat before I do! (I can live on egg sandwiches!

I agree! Except that mine are not laying well and I need to sell all of the eggs to buy chicken food and that doesn't leave me any to eat.

DixieBeast...remind me next time I buy a stray Pullet/Hen from a misfit clutch to ask...WHAT have they been drinking out of??? The white silkie seems to be doing OK BUT I cannot find evidence of her drinking except in the morning and night when I dribble water on her beak...she is eating and poopying (a little)? She will not move from the roost or where-ever I put her while I am here...I did soak and wash her feet last night and they were REALLY gunky and the poop was stuck like super-glue! I done fell in love with her and her name is now Sapphire...you know why...LOL Pictures to come later. I did put a bunny/guinney pig waterer in tonight where she can reach it from the roost and she still has the bowl waterer that attaches to the crate she is in...I wish she would move on her own! She stays where you put her no matter where...except for maybe one step...??? weird.

Here Is Sapphire - what was described to me at a flea market from someone I never see there in a small cage with 2 black slikie pullets and 2 black silkie roos and her...suppose to be 4 months old...I welcome everyones opinion and critique...and I am definitely NOT the best picture taker as I don't have anyone to help...LOL









And the next one is her feet/legs...sorry but this is pretty blurry...AShe has 5 toes on both and sapphire/blue legs and toes and feathering on all:



So what do you think???

I love her but she hardly moves??? God, I hope she survives my inexperience!

Thank God! I can deal with the spoon better than the knife...

Now what I would do

1 - either pin up or trim her crest. She is in a new place and can't see much with that crest so that may be part of why she is not moving.
2 - go ahead and remove the roost. Silkies prefer the ground. That may be why she is not moving ...
3 - Check her for mites and lice. Treat if needed.
4 - treat for worms if you dont know when she was treated last

ETA: I cant see her feet good and cant tell a lot from pics but she is a cute white silkie
