I think the reason, if I remember correctly, is because there is more land and animals down in the lower part of the state. The seasons are nicer and come earlier and last longer so there is more production, food is more plentiful so the young have better chances at survival and it works out better for folks to kill off more down that way.
Up here there is more people population, supposedly not as many animals and land.

Persimmon tree predicted a snowy winter!

I dont have to bait...we have oaks, and too many deer drinking out of my pool in daylight...I was just telling why people sell them... walmart sells deer corn all hunting season so its ok to sell but not use!!LOL

I was giving money making ideas!!

oh no doubt. I wasn't trying to be negitive towards your answer.. ya your right about walmart selling deer corn.. . you can plant special grasses and have deer plots for deer so that they grow strong an big. but that supposed to be thru spring and summer.. and of course they feed corn to help gain weight and bait. Your right too if you have lots of them and wont use them sell them holidays are just around the corner..

I so badly wanted to fly out to CO and see the lights in the snow on a sleigh ride for Christmas but DH and DD are not going to get on a plane and I am not driving. Then I spent way too much money working on the farm so that dream is shot.
We just don't get together with my sister and her family or DH's brother since our parents have passed away. They don't care for us so we do not even try. I have a lot to do here on the farm in just chores and it is very stressful to cook and clean for get togethers.
I must admit though, I miss my parents.

I got you guys on here!

Nicole was walking through the yard and a wooly hijacked a ride on her pants leg. he was solid red.

Doesn't that mean a warm winter? Or does that mean we had a dry summer?

Wouldn't you be able to see streamers by now if it were a roo? Looks pretty pullet and a very pretty one at that!

Not always. I had one that I thought was streamers but was just her crest got bigger.

Some of mine don't start getting streamers until 6-8 months -

I know I have a 3 1/2 month old buff that I keep thinking is a boy but where I thought streamers were coming in it is just filling in with fluff. Maybe the streamers will come on a bit later but I think it looks roo-ish. So did Jackie. She chose to take the blue Silkie instead. Hope it was a girl!

All the pens made it fine up here, it was just the neighbor's tree that fell over our back fence and let the horse get out.
I did set a full 5 gallon bucket of water on top of the baby pen that actually has a pair of MFC in there so that roofing would not fly off.

Ahhhhh! Welcome to my world!
When we went to PA for a week to the Guinea Pig Specialty show it cost me more for a sitter to come in and care for the piggies and farm animals than the rental van and fancy hotel! So worth it though! But that cruise I was going to take last year went south when I priced a sitter again. Oh well, I love home! There's no place like home.

Hope you can work something out. Your kids need family, too.

We haven't been anywhere in 4 years. No way I could leave all these chickens for someone else to care for. I am trying to simplify a bit so that one day soon I could get back down to Edisto. If anyone has any ideas for bigger drinkers/feeders that don't require daily attention I would love to hear about them.
