Yes, it will be barred. You are right, Lisa, head spot means barring gene.

Aren't the barred & cuckoo basically the same?

There is a very slight difference in the way the checks cross. The barred birds seem to have more white on them with a sharper contrast. The cuckoo markings are closer together, sometimes looking almost blue where they cross. My bantam wyandottes really look cuckoo to me and that's what I called them at first. But everyone seems to recognize the "barred" term and that's what others call my birds. I don't know anyone else that has the barred/cuckoo or crele wyandottes so I'm doing the best I can. There is very little info out there about the barred/cuckoo and zero info on the crele color. I do have one article that explains how to cross colors to get the cuckoo color in wyandottes. That is why I used that term when I first started raising these birds. But the dot on top of the head is just like barred rocks. Does that make it all clear as mud for ya?

Yes, from what I understand the cuckoo birds are a little lighter--I have a cuckoo silkie roo and think he is beautiful! And the sweetest boy on the place--well, next to the d'Uccles....

I tried and loked into it, but really hard to get a good, viable line. Good luck!!

Yes, I'm sure Ideal sell them but I am looking for a nice heritage line and would like to stay away from the hatcheries.

If it were only that easy! Then we would miss the sing-a-long that will be going all night. I'm not kidding. It will work out. We're taking my mother-in-law with us and she wants to stay until Saturday. Next year it's at my farm!

Oh Suzanne - Bless your heart.

I feel your pain. DH's family used to do the sing-a-long EVERY Christmas, it's pure torture. Seriously....torture. We never have time for all that since we have 3 family parties all on Christmas Eve and we're rushed to get everywhere with everything. And to sit thru that and also sometimes the "reading" of the Christmas story.

I sit there thinking of all the things I need to be doing and time seems to STOP.

Normally I love it! My husband is the youngest of 5 and I have 13 nieces and nephews. Everyone plays an instrument and can sing beautifully. I usually get the tambourine. My MIL is a cellist. My DH plays guitar, piano, banjo, harmonica.... and sings so well. I hope he'll just go and let me stay in town. My FIL died four years ago and my MIL really loves spending time with her kids. She turned 80 this week and I just saw everyone last weekend. I know they won't miss me!

STOP TALKING ABOUT NEW CHICKEN BREEDS! GOSH! Now I need to know about Wyandottes. The D'Uccles were bad enough.

I guess I'm just like the rest of us. Someone starts raving about a breed and then suddenly I feel like I want it.
