John, I just candled them since you asked. I have 4 little OEGB eggs I put in with them as kind of indicators--those 4 are developing very nicely. I see mostly clear eggs with the Doms and anything that is developing looks to have blood rings in them. It does not look good but I will let them go until day 18 and remove the clear eggs. That will leave 7--but then again all but 2 of those 7 look to be developing blood rings. I will keep you informed--did you ever bid on anymore?

Shipped eggs are always a hit or miss thing. Kind of expensive hit or miss thing....

I bought a dozen Delawares a couple months ago from Oklahoma and not one developed. I've been watching his auctions but it must be trendy cuz they are going for outrageous prices!! He has a 30 egg auction up right now. I'll just continue to watch and wait for a good deal. It seems as if that dropping of the box really messed all the eggs up and not just the broken ones. I'm still holding out hope for you!!

And Sunday my little lionhead rabbit died after over indluging in some alfalfa. I feel like a bad mom!

So, I'm looking for another lionhead rabbit if anyone has any. I want to get another. I was attacked by a dog that same day mine died and after the incident and hospital visit I wanted to just lay in the bed with Panda on my chest. He used to lick my hands and chin. Such a sweet little fella!

Lark, I will be at amy's Saturday late afternoon after a bunny show in columbia. I am bringing two lionhead boys to sell. One would be a great little pet. Not show quality or pedigreed. He nearly died a bunch of times the first few weeks of his life.....is now about 4 months old. Siamese sable. His name is Zippity. If you are interested, let me know and I can send pix. Otherwise I will sell him at the show Saturday morning.

For the past few years I have been amazed at the people that drive from OK, FL, PA and other states just to buy birds from me. Goodness knows, I would not drive that far for chickens.

I think this lady did buy them as chicks but I can always tell Ameraucanas from my Marans as chicks. They always have muffs and beards, just like the d'Uccles. I am thinking this breeder was just not reputable in what they were selling. I showed her the differences not only in my own birds but what is on the Internet, too.
I have quite a few ladies from other breeds that pick a roo they like that is not of their same breed. Showing us, I suppose, that birds of a feather do NOT always flock together.
However, I put mine in closed up pens together when breeding to make sure the eggs are pure. Some people have no clue how long of a time frame they need to keep birds in breeding or away from a certain roo before the eggs are pure, which I think we all learned recently.

How are the chicks today?
I found some blood in my d'Uccle brooder last week. I had been feeding them meal worms every day and thought that may be the case but 2 days of Sulmet and they are back to normal. I am still feeding meal worms though. They have never slowed down and act fine but I worried it was coccidiosis. It could have been too many meal worms. They do not have grit but the chick starter is gritty and they swallow them quickly. I sometimes let them into a meal worm bin to scratch around. They have a blast digging and eating and then dust bathing in it!
I hope yours are much better today!

Oh! You better watch that Mottled Cochin auction. There are a lot of watchers and these birds are very popular in show circles. Glad you already have some growing up though!

Beautiful BLRW. They grow up so gorgeous!
The Frizzle will lighten as it gets older but it is a smooth Frizzle, same with the other. Neither got the curl. They have a very light father in Columbian coloring but he carries the Mille Fleur gene too, as does one of the Frizzle girls. You will be amazed at what they will look like at 6 months old. A lot lighter than what they are now but dark on the hackle and tail feathers.
Fred is my Mille Fleur Cochin foundation roo. He is one of my favorite roos. So gentle and kind. The chick will be dark as he is in with MF/Mottled hens. You may get some red hackle and tail feathers with a base black body but maybe white on those feather tips throughout the body. I have had some gorgeous chicks come out of that cross and just some average lookers.
