Someone NOT on BYC told me if I want my Silkies to "mate" successfully and be sure the eggs are fertilized I must pluck or shave the hens rears...??? what??? I have looked and not seen anything on this...can someone tell me if I just ran into a lunatic or did she know what she was talking about? This is a serious question - not a joke...I have procrastinated for a while and tried to find something on the subject before asking this embarasing question...

I have never done that and have gobs of fertile eggs. Some people do though. Not sure it's necessary.

See MOM...Susanne has spoken...I would trust her judgment!!!!!!!
