Why the French Guineas? Dont they bathe or shave, are they rude to everyone and think they are better than everyone? just wondering.

They are much bigger than the standard guineas and tend to just hang around the shed and beg for food. A few will fly up into the trees to roost at night but most sleep on the ground because they are too big and heavy to fly. Not sure why(probably size) but they lay very few fertile eggs after the first year, so I would just like to keep more of the standard colored guineas and the French are pretty aggressive toward them.

Forgot to add that my Standard Cochins have started laying! Found one egg yesterday, two this morning!

I"m a bit surprised where they are laying them however. We built a couple of nest boxes and set them under the roost, but they ignored those. Instead, I had left a door to a brooder open and they are laying them in there

Not that it is a big deal, it makes it much easier to collect the eggs since I don't have to bend over... I'm just sayin..

Congrats on the eggs!!

does anyone know when the spring swaps start up? I'm so muddled in my life right now, I don't know what to expect or plan on. I still want to add a couple specialties and the barred Hollands but 2012 is uncertain.. but I do like going to swaps and maybe I can swap out a couple of my roosters to new good homes. or also I guess i need to find a processing plant I have my two ( piggies) a roo ( Tom) and a hen - Helen,) oh my gosh she has got to be nearing 20 lbs and hes real close to the same... but I cant I just cant, I know I am a wimp, I should be able to but alas, I can't. does anyone know where one might be close to Laurens

I have a number for a man in hodges who processes birds...prob does other stuff. I was told he charged $3 a chicken? Bring it live and pick it up ready to freeze or eat.

I am still not liking this new BYC. The searches are still not any better and all the things that was supposed to be improved on are still not there. Gosh, I am glad I got on FB before they messed up this website. And my email has been bombarded by folks that hate to use this site anymore, as well. I am still on here but not as much as other places.
