South Carolina

I have to share this story with you. My neighbor's son just posted a picture on facebook of the THIRD coyote he had shot from his bedroom window. They live up the street from Lou Ann (and the chickens) and around the corner from me. Lou Ann immediately asked if it was the window at their house and was told yes. It seems that his dad set up a sensor in the field area behind the house. The coyote or fox (he has also gotten two fox) sets off the sensor, which then sets off an alarm and wakes up Brad. He gets up, opens the window and shoots the coyote or fox. Pretty amazing. I'm glad the chickens are locked up at night! Lou Ann is now going to be sure her cats are staying locked up, too. I'm even thinking of keeping the doggie door blocked so my dachshund can't get out.
This isn't that rural of an area. It's really more of a neighborhood, they just have a field area behind them where they had bought some extra land. So crazy!
I would really llke to know more about that sensor. We're having the same problem here with predators and it seems I'm the only one that can ever see them and I am never near a gun. Those creatures are fast.

I'll see what I can find out for you. It may be a couple of days. I thought it was a brilliant idea. By having the alarm a good distance away from the sensor, and inside, the predator wouldn't know he had been spotted. And in this case, the shooter is only 16. I'm just trying to not think about the fact there were that many coyotes and foxes around this neighborhood and probably a few more.
Now, if one of them wanted to get the person's cat that keeps hanging out under my bird feeder and on top of Randy's convertible top, I may not feel terribly bad. A little bad, but not awful. I'm ready to find it's owner or take it somewhere.

Thanks! Yes, coyotes are everywhere and they are a real nuisance. I know many people who have lost their pets, both dogs and cats, to them. Around here they are everywhere. When they start howling it sounds like dozens of them.

I am so eggcited! I went to my coop today and found a GREEN egg. My EE named Falcon laid it I think!

And then yesterday I met with a local chicken guy and he is letting me have his two Mille fleur duccle hens. But he has to catch them first! Lol. They free range in his yard with a bunch of other bantams. But he gave me 4 duck eggs to incubate..,so guess who has ducklings on the way and a green egg so hitting the bator!!!!

I had such a good day today and yesterday

Gosh, miss a while and I miss a lot!
I do like the "Go to last post" and unread posts but so far nothing else is too easy on this new BYC.
I do have a auction up and it is going okay but one person PM'd me their bid. I had to explain that it needed to go below the post.

Oh hey, I want to know where to buy adult Silkies for $8?? Someone on FB said they can buy adults for $8 when I said my half grown ones were that price. So what kind of Silkie do you get for $8? Not a big deal on my part as I love my blue and black Silkie kids and was holding on to these for myself. Maybe I should price them higher than $8 as I usually sell out quicker than I like. I just almost fell over when they said they could get adults for that price and wonder where I am missing out?

If you find $8 adult silkies please let me know. I might buy some to resell. I never have enough silkies, they always sell out and people ask for more. And I sell my chicks for $8. Now where do I find that "go to last post" button? I saw it once on my subscription button (I think that's where I saw it) but now it's gone. I can't find it. I haven't seen the "unread post" button. Geez, I need a whole day to sit and figure this site out.

Glad to hear about all the new eggs and excitement with everyone.
Funny to hear about Guineas as we had planned to eat all those we had but then people went crazy over buying them so we had none left to try.
Maybe we will have extras this year and I have no idea how many males I have in my light pen now. They mostly all seem to be girls and I definitely would keep any extras of them and have to keep my first pearl Guinea boy so only would I eat some extra pearl boys and I think I only have one extra of those. Hard to tell with Guineas when they don't say anything.
But if that one lav girl doesn't shut her machine gun mouth up I may put her in the freezer. She really goes at it after I put the food in their feeder. Like she is telling me to hurry and leave. The slate and coral blues come up to the feeder and investigate and start eating but Crypt is rotten!

That is what I was asking them! Where DO I find those grown $8 Silkies! Never got an answer to that question.

The unread posts is under the topic at the top of this page. As soon as I pull up the Social thread though I find the SC thread and it says below that that I can go to my last post so I often do and then below the SC heading it says how many unread posts I have on this thread. I have Foxfire so I am not sure if that is different from others in what is shown. I keep reading about Internet Explorer being different and I could use that but we have never liked it.

I did the dumbest thing! I came home today after a REALLY long day. 8 hrs at work, 2 hrs at school, and 2 hrs driving in between the two and home. Went down to check for eggs and my coop door was propped wide open...no big deal...I just assumed DH had let them out when he got off work. NOPE. I had left the coop wide open all last night and all day today.

But luckily all my babies are accounted for. I felt so stupid! I'm so nervous about even letting them free range when I'm home, let alone leaving them out all day unattended! Sheesh...I'm just glad they're all ok!

On another note does anyone else have spring fever??? I am so ready for warm weather, gardening, and of course CHICKS! I've already got myself on a list for some gorgeous olive egger hatching eggs..

shhh don't tell my DH!

I honestly haven't had any problems with the new site other than the auction section. I agree it is awful and seems like it'd be really confusing. I did read somewhere that they hope to eventually have the auction system like it used to be, but it wasn't an option with the new platform of the site? I may be way off..not sure. I know there are some other poultry auction sites though.
