I would pitch a fit. And cry. And throw the unbroken eggs at him probably.

I just said a few choice words and walked off, leaving him to clean up all those eggs. And some of them were duck eggs, some were my bantam wyandotte eggs....it still makes me feel sick to think about it. I work so hard to get those eggs and I get so little for them it's a crime to waste a single one - much less a whole day's worth! AND I collected in the rain and mud today!! Getting mad again......

never mind....

Annaliese and I just set some seeds to start. I just got two big cold frames so I'm hoping to start some herbs and put them out in that in a few weeks. Anyone have a cold frame? I'd love to know how you use it and how it works for you. Beyond that, I enjoyed the bountiful rain the last few days and am waiting for the returns to start coming in!

I have a small greenhouse but it's full of chicks.

As for the rain, you can sure have my share of it. We got 1 1/2 inches of rain today and I literally have mud knee deep in some places. It is such a mess. I put out some sawdust in the coops to try and dry it up a bit. But even my duck yard with sand in it has turned into mud. And all the places that we had straw or shavings has just mushed up into a bigger muddy mess. I think I need a few loads of gravel, can't think of anything else to do with all of this.

I must say I am not fond of feeding my chickens in the rain. It's hard to hold an umbrella and feed at the same time. Throw in a flashlight and it's nearly impossible.

Just got home from eating dinner out to find a big ole ugly opossum crossing the road. Locked my silkies up in the nick of time. My oldest (whom is 8) grabbed his beebe gun to protect me.

We have moved on from the umbrella to the full length, industrial strength raincoats from TSC and tall rubber boots. My boots are insulated and I'm loving them, no cold feet. We've also come to love those really unattractive one piece worksuits that construction men wear. They keep us warm and save me some laundry as the clothes underneath stay clean. Are you getting the picture? I am a sight, but I stay fairly warm and dry while getting the job done. How sweet that your son is going to protect you. I have 2 sons, they are my heart. I can tell you that my oldest (17) really does protect me now. He's moved from the BB gun to a rifle and shotgun. I've looked up more than once after spending too long with a strange man in the yard to see my teenager standing in the door (and I know he's holding his rifle behind the door). Once or twice I've been relieved to see him. He also goes out with me at 3:00 in the morning when we hear the coyotes in the yard. Sons are wonderful, I'd be lost without mine.

Does anyone know who has blue laced red wyandottes for sell? I would orde some but i dont want 25 of them lol

Phoneman has BLRW. I have 2 that I got from him in early summer last year. They are big and beautiful now. I have a roo and a hen. My hen is an idiot (just her personality) but my rooster is so awesome and friendly!

That's my boy. :D His name is Ember.

On a different subject why am I having such terrible hatching rates? I've been practicing with the eggs mine have been laying. Had some going strong and doing awesome for 10 days then POOF. DEAD. I looked at them last night and there was a huge blood ring. Opened the eggs and had little mini chickens that looked like a tadpoles (eyes and a tail still) I think 2 nights ago when I added new eggs the temperature didn't go back up for a LONG time. As in I added them that night and by morning the temp was still hovering like 97. Do you think that was my issue? Getting mad at my LG incubator! I have a digital temp thing in there that reads temp and humidity. Humidity stays above 20 and around 20-30. Temp right now after some adjustments is at 100.5 ish.

I hope to do some rearranging and get my gals in with lucky soon...they came from Farmer John who has some of Phonemans birds and my roo was a "o throw in that cute last grey chick at TSC" great find!
