I am definatly taking crates!! HEHE...I already have birds lined up to buy from Nella!! Observation was my goal but Dixie asked about showing and John wants to sell...he is just trying to get out of helping build more coops!

I'm pretty sure the whole family is going to the Newnan show. My kids are off school Friday and Monday so that makes it easier. It will be our first show. Just going to observe though. I might have to take a couple of crates in case I see something I must have!

I am thinking of keeping the small one because small size seems important in bantam showing ??? She is a fiesty lil bugger too...bullies all the others!

The people who buy the OEGB's from me are showing them and they want them tiny with very short legs. They liked mine last spring because I had hatched them all winter and from what I've been told chicks raised in the winter are typically smaller than chicks raised in warm weather. If you're thinking of showing, keep the smallest that you have. Just my 2 cents.

Oh wow, I hate to hear you lost that nice big blue roo. He was on up in years and I had thought that since he made it through last winter when it was so snowy and cold that he would do better this year but it was his time, I guess. He lived a nice long life.
Emptynester has a gorgeous blue roo she can part with! Too bad she is closer to us.

And how terrible to lose the peacock! I never thought about how long they live.

I haven't lost much lately except for that Muscovy girl and I have no idea how old she was either but Herman looks to be on up in years. I figure Penelope was, too.

I had already kept back another rooster that was living with the flock. He is a beautiful son of "Blue" and looks very much like him. I always try to keep 2 or 3 roos with my breeding flock since you never know what might happen. Now I only have the one rooster in there so I will need to raise another one to be my back up roo. Thankfully my giant cochin hens are laying so I now have a reason to start hatching again.

My black copper marans have also been giving me some really beautiful, extremely dark eggs and I want to hatch them too. I think a month long break from hatching was long enough.

Day 19 in the incubator...my first try as a beginner. Had a temp spike in the second week and now it has taken me a (24 hour) day to get temp back up after removing turner - resetting eggs - filling water - for lockdown. Went to 99 and now back to 101 so I hope all is going well! There was movement inside at day 17 after the temp spike the day before I had to get ready for lockdown.

When should I expect to see the eggs start to wiggle around? Or will they wiggle any before pipping?

I have 4 silkies in a small tractor with a closed in part made from a shipping crate where I have put a nest box. They have laid a couple eggs a few weeks ago and DD - Dixiebeast set them. Waiting to see how those went. They didn't lay for a while after that and I quit checking on any. Thought I would let nature take its course. I havent checked for eggs in 5 days but tonight one of the silkie hens is sleeping in the nest box while the others are on the roost. She usually roosts with the others so maybe she is on a few eggs??? That would be awesome! I am afraid to look and disturb her. I'll just keep an eye out to see if she keeps setting!

Amy - I am sooo sorry to hear about Cowboy! He seemed to be a legend in his time!

JoyCats - I hate to hear you lost your peacock! I have always wanted one just to watch him show off! But everyone tells me they are very loud and annoying?!?

Those spy-cam shots sure are scarry to see and think about! Makes me wonder what else roams here other than the skunks I know are out there!

My self blue OEGBs are super small...My roo is only 8 inches tall at full strut and thats to the top of his tail feathers which are very dramatic! I ahve my first eggs from them in the bator now!

The small one I am talking about is a white Duccle...her hatchmate is also a girl and double her size!! I hear that small is most wanted in all bantams!!

Thanks - I still have 2 pair of peafowl and 6 peachicks growing up so I'm hopeful that one of them will be black shoulder. I so wish I had a little Percy Jr. growing up.
