South Carolina

I have taken the NPIP class and I encourage everyone that can to attend. They also have one in the fall I believe in the mid state.

The following sections are well worth the money even if you do not get NPIP certified.
I learned a lot about chickens and Mickey and Julie are great teachers.

Anatomy & Physiology of the Chicken: Dr. Mickey Hall

Necropsy & Blood Testing: Dr. Julie Helm/Dr. Mickey Hall

Diseases of Poultry/AI/Antibiotics: Dr. Julie Helm

Parasites of Poultry: Dr. Mickey Hall

Honestly what I was told by a tester is...if you aren't showing or shipping birds out, you do not have to be tested. I need to get all of mine tested, and it is going to be easier just for me to do my own since I show, and whenever I add new blood.

She sent me a letter they send to people that call and ask for testing information. I do not have it in my inbox any longer, but will call tomorrow and ask her to send it to me again.

Oh and for someone else to do the testing, they will come check out the property the first time from what I understood. Still only 20 cents per bird for testing I think. IDK if there is a charge for the AI testing.

I know our ducks can be a problem .......

I think it will be worth it just for the last two classes you listed!

I figured that, but Kris wants to work on a few project birds. who knows we might want to ship some turkey eggs. I got that letter in november, but today I got the registration info and study material. not that we definately will get the farm "Certified", but I am an information junkie. when I get into a hobby, I go ALL in. the course outline looks interesting too.

Why are ducks a problem?

I spoke with her quite awhile & was trying to take it all in.... IF I understood correctly, ducks carry one of those things they test for, and can cause the chickens to test positive.

When that happens, they then take blood and send it off to have it tested again to see if it the birds are actually infected or not.
