The only down side to being NPIP is you can only buy birds or eggs from NPIP flocks.
That can be a little frustrating when you find something you really-really want and they are not NPIP.

I have a question about the NPIP certification. Is this something that I could do with just my breeder pens? Or would I have to test every bird on the farm, including my layer flock and ducks etc. My breeding birds are in private runs with seperate coops.

I should also say that there are birds free ranging outside the breeding yards though - chickens, ducks and turkeys.

Okay - thanks! Hmmmmm......wonder how my finches and small birds would play into this? And my fantail pigeons (who are housed with chickens). Heck, testing here would be a week long job.

I am putting eggs in the bator today.

I was going to wait until the Newnan show to start it back up but I had orpington eggs that I did not want to eat.
I just could not wait any longer.

After you are tested the first time, you only have to test your breeders each year.

I got busy and let my first certification lapse. I was busy with my bee work and just not sure if I wanted to continue in the program. Believe me, I will not do that again. We had to test everything. I had more chickens the second time around and the guineas are

He had offered to buy the billie back if she had and take him to the sale so we would not have to worry about breeding back in...I understood that and told him if we kept him we would band him...he said that was good and said if we ever wanted to breed he could help me find a billie later...she is what I think is a nubie mix...dad is a pure pygmie! I saw him and do not think he is related to mom...was told he wasnt when I asked. I just don't get her wanting them both back? She said she hand raised mom and if we decided ever to sell her she wanted first choice but then she asked about the babies 2 times? She may just miss Momma but Momma is not a socialized goat...not like you would expect if she was so attached to her...impossible to pet and very skiddish...I think they just want to get babies back super cheap to resale. But even DH says they are going nowhere and he hasnt even seen them in person and won't until friday! I just cannot imagine selling them ever...they are going to be spoiled sweeties!

Oh crap, I did'nt even think about the guinies. catching them is like trying to corral flies. Flies with sharp nails and an attitude to boot!
