Thats Awsome...I started with 6 fluffies from TSC this time last year...now I have 70ish!! You will love your chicken adventure!

I know this has probably been answered but here are mine:

1) Yes.
2) I also have a wire grid in the Hovabator I hatch in. I use that rubber shelf liner on top. I think it helps them grip a little better and keeps most of the junk on top of it. Easy to just throw away after the hatch.
3) Till they're all done hatching preferably but about 48 hours. At the very least until they are completely dry. The more you open the bator, the worse it is for the unhatched ones. Easy to freeze dry them.
4) Yes. Take them off the turner and either lie them down in the bator or put them in an egg carton. I see more and more people hatching that way. I may try it.

1. should the humidity in the bator at day 18 be around 60-70ish???

3.How long do I leave the chicks in the bator before I remove them and put them in the brooder?
4.Ok when you LOCKDOWN does that mean that you stop opening and stop turning the eggs??

Wednesday is lockdown and Saturday is hatch...You know i run a tight schedule so I know the chicks will hatch at exactly 12 o'clock noon. All at once.. hahahaha!!!!

Hopefully out of the 12 I will be excited if only a few hatch. Just so I can say I hatched some eggs!!!! If all 12 Hatch I will freak out and will be dropping some off at Your House hahaa!!!!!

With the egg cartons...if you are going to use those....be sure to punch the bottoms of the cartons out too. At least for me that seems to help.
I know Amy hatches this way - not sure if she uses whole cartons or not.

My TSC in Florence SC did NOT have the advertised birds. They had "Red Layers" (RIR), Buff Orp (straight run), Cornish Rocks, and Ducks. Brought home 6 RIR for myself and a friend to split. Picking up some more from another guy here... I am sharing the RIR with a friend.
I am housing them in the house this week in a dog crate. Right now they are also in a laundry hamper.
