I don't either........but I don't point it out! LOL. I pick the shells out as they hatch...Leave them in though to cheer the others along!

Oh yes, I always try to leave one little cheerleader in there to peep loudly for company.

Thanks everyone for coop compliments...I still need to paint it but had to move birds in to empty a LF size spot for Dixie's Sumatra's!! John enjoys it so much he is thinking of building some to sell...If I don't fill them up first!! SOMEONES pretty ones got him started!! LOL I wanted off the ground with vinyl so I can put sand in and kitty scoop it for my feather feet!!

Thanks!!

AWESOME....Love it!!

So over the last 2 sunny days off...which took 3 weekends to get...my DH built me this (pic below)for my D'uccles...

So today I took the smaller version that had no built on nest boxes and vinyl siding ( he put it on legs with a floor monday morn before he left for the week...it was on ground with open bottom) and I ripped the siding off,put wood siding on...put vinyl flooring in,added nest boxes, sand, and caught scrappy and his gal! Then I moved Dixies Sumatras into scrappy's big coop!! I mean they are just a teeny pair of OEGB and the others needed the space more! And I only bled once and only fell once(different times) It was a good morning!!It now looks like this only a foot less long and half a foot less deep!! I am gonna wire the bottoms for a small run and let the Duccles take turns there during day. I have got to get back to free ranging but I hear the hawk everytime I am outside!! I let my big birds out but my teenies I worry over!!

So Sorry

Well, my second and last peacock died last night. I did a postmortem on the poor thing this morning and found he had a very nice clean liver(no blackhead). His Cecal were enlarged and full of a nasty white spongy substance. I am not sure if it was cocci or what. I have a question out to a man on the Peafowl thread trying to find out what went wrong. If it is cocci I will at least try again to get more peafowl at some point. That cocci stuff is horrible!

Samantha, on a funnier note--I think I have 2 cockerels and 1 pullet in my Dorking chicks. The one I took the band off of is one of the cockerels. Tell Patsy to look at the chests on her chicks that are my birds age. I think the males have a dark gray chest and the female seem to be getting reddish chests. The little males also have bigger combs and a little larger points on their combs. My OEGB BBreds color up real similar at about this age. I guess the man may have been right on which ones were roosters but maybe not totally on which ones were hens.

Thank you for the kind words about my peafowl. I do not know what I would do without all of you to share these things with--DH is somewhat indifferent when it comes to the birds, though he realizes I am upset about my peafowl and is trying to be understanding. I really do not think I am getting anymore peafowl. I was suppose to get 2 hens to go with them and I am going to call the man and tell him I have changed my mind about the birds. I still do not know what happened to these. I had written a person on the peafowl site that I thought could tell me something and he just said he thought it was still worms. I found no signs of worms in the bird yesterday just the enlarged cecals. Plus, he had been wormed. The way the cecals looked I would say blackhead now that I have seen similar on the internet but for the degree of damage there was not damage to his liver. I just do not know what was going on but I really do not want to deal with it again. I loose enough chickens I do not need to loose anymore peafowl. Gosh, I hope the guineas stay healthy....

In trying to make Lemon aid out of my Lemons--I do have a 20' by 40' totally covered pen sitting out there empty....

An empty coop? Wow! I'm really sorry about your peafowl. I can see why you are turned off. It's not like losing a bird that you have 10 more of and can replace. And not knowing what happened is really frustrating. I'm not sure how you people do necropsies or whatever they're called. I would choke to death throwing up. No way could I ever do anything like that. I'm envious! I could barely change my kids' diapers. I have a very weak stomach about that stuff although raising chickens has made it better!

My daughter has helped decrease my gag reflex.

Over the years I have gagged so much!! When she was little, she thought it was funny and did stuff to make me gag.
Her last good laugh was when we processed our broilers a few years ago....

I had a good laugh at her expense when we birthed the kid goat and SHE gagged.

Yes, diapers can be very challenging. But don't think it does not gross me out to some degree to cut a bird open. My biggest challenge yesterday was that I really like the bird I was cutting open and it did kind of tear me up to do that to him. I know he was dead but I guess it was a respect thing. I feel really bad I could not at least figure out what was wrong with him after all of that.
