I have like 10 pages to catch up on..........

Geez Louise!

Last post I saw was Susanne's saying she was not going to the NPIP Classes.

Off to catch up!

I do this most times. Of course I do good to turn more than twice a day.

BUT those with really really bad air sacs...if anything does start to develop - I do not turn those ever. Most times they will need help out because they can't seem to turn to zip fully.

It's been really busy around the farm, longer days and warm temps mean it's time to get some work done! I wanted to share some good news, this week I got my first turkey eggs (3 so far) and my first guinea eggs. I think spring has sprung. Also wanted to share an experiment that I've been doing with shipped eggs. I received 2 boxes of eggs at the same time and I candled them to check the air sacs. The one box (my Dorking eggs) were really in bad shape with the majority of the eggs having floating air sacs. I also had 15 BLRW eggs that didn't look too bad, only a few showing damaged air sacs. So I put the worst eggs, the Dorkings, on my hatcher tray for the first week and did not turn them at all. The BLRW eggs went into the egg turners. At 7 days I candled them and 10 of the 15 Dorking eggs had veins! These were the worst eggs and 2/3 of them are growing. I checked my BLRW eggs and they didn't look so good, only 5 eggs out of 15 had veins. From now on, any shipped eggs that I receive will go without any turning for the first week. I now have the Dorking eggs in the turner and they seem to be growing well. I'll let you know if I have a good hatch from them. Just wanted to share that bit of information. Here's a pic of my turkey egg - isn't it beautiful!

Kimberly, I hope you ate enough cupcakes for me, too! I am going on a diet. I have only done that once or twice in my life. I have NEVER been so fat like now. I have put on 25 lbs and feel horrible. Must be my thyroid....uh-huh, that's it! I have always been able to eat what I wanted until about 2 years ago, now I can't. I wants some blasted cupcakes! A customer brought me a blooming cake yesterday. Darling, but I can only drool. Maybe the water I am drooling out will take off the water weight!?
Glad you made it through the class. Did you meet Scotty and Debora? They were going. Not sure they get on this forum much though so I can't ask personally.

Glad to know you all made it through the class and are now NPIP!
Robert and Kris, you can do my kids while you have them. My Cochins get checked all the time when I sell them for show but so far the d'Uccles haven't been checked except for "Rumpy", the very rare d'Everburg that was shipped out the other week. Her and the Porcelain d'Uccle roo tested clean.

Did you all learn a lot? What were some interesting facts that you can share with us?

We have gone through the FIRST requirement to become NPIP or SC Small flock Certified. now we have to decide if we want to continue, and how the make the required changes, or test everyone all the time. and do we do AI testing too?

There was a LOT of good information that was skimmed over and too much info for one day. lots of pamphlets, big 2" binder full of information and a paperback book too.
