My little lamb was up and eating feed yesterday and grazing. We were so happy. Sadly this morning, he was near death. He didn't have any ears and I'm thinking the mama let him go because he wasn't right. We tried though. He passed late this morning. Right afterwards, we heard the donkeys braying up a storm and ran out to the pasture to find... a new baby donkey! I just saw the mom yesterday and she didn't really look pregnant. Who knew? Not us! So we lost one, we gained one. It's cute as a button. Chickens are all doing well. No more deaths! We have four polish babies left out of 20. That was a huge disappointment. All the house pieces are here! I just got to go see my kitchen. I love it! I have a plate rack, glass front cabinets, a drawer with a cutting board and knife storage. It's going to be so nice once to granite and old wood top for my island are in and my copper sinks! I'm so happy to be settling forever on the farm.

So sorry for the little lamb! I didn't realize he had no ears...I don't recall seeing or noticing that in the pics...so sorry for you and him! I just love the li'l donkey! How very adorable!

Help!!
I got 3 laying hens last week. They are each approx 1 yr old. My SLW just seems a bit off to me. I noticed her eyes seem watery with little air bubbles. She is eating, drinking, scratching and pooing but just mostly stays to herself and cant be tempted with treats. I finally got my hands on her at roosting time tonight. She was not impressed. I saw no infection. Maybe it's the breed. IDK. She has a bunch of golden feathers mixed with her white. She has laid no eggs.

The other two are settling in well. We got one egg out of the BA and 2 out of the BCM.

Any ideas?

IDK and I certainly do NOT want to offer bad news but I had recently gotten an adult (very young-just laying) hen and she had runny eyes and nostrils (clear like water) and had no noise breathing...seemed to breath normal with beak closed ...she was here a week and then passed...she was healthy otherwise...very nice size and heavy and ate and drank but kept to herself...laid a few eggs in one week...just was dead one day in the nest box...I did think I found mites but it would have been so few that I don't think that was her problem?!? I hope yours comes around for you!!! I still can't figure what happened to mine...

I did rescue him...

Now I am working on a secret project..from my DH...I am putting in a mini pond all by myself...it is kicking my butt!!I hope to have it all done by friday so he can walk out on the back deck sat morn to have his morning coffee and see it!!We actually bought a huge pond set and are replacing one of the smaller pools with a pool we have had a while( not in use). I already have some fish and plants that came with it so I am going to put the little one by the house to keep them all in for now! The big set will be a big project and may not get done until end of summer. We are putting it down in the valley with the peach trees and dogwoods...going to put a huge wire/fence around it that you can walk in and make it my call duck garden!!

Oh good!! I can't wait for the swap meet. Is this the same TSC as it was last year? I can't remember. Heck, most days I can't remember what I had for breakfast.

And I would really like more information on the show - especially if it is a casual thing. I guess that would be the equivalent of a "B" match in the dog world. I have never even been to a chicken show!

No...this is at the TSC in Laurens SC...they have never had one there and I was asked to help put one together! It will be a casual thing...I am meeting with her thurs to decide on "classes" and such...like age groups or awards for funniest looking bird etc...Mainly she wants to get more people in the area interested in chickens...even if they don't buy TSC chicks(she hopes they would buy supplies) and thinks a big gathering will draw attention of the public!! We can also bring crafts and such to peddle! I am thinking it would be nice if some of us could make some baked goods to donate for sell to help the locla rescue farm also! I am working on all the details still as extras to the swap!!

Well...other than baking anything (just ask my hubby - you don't want me bringing baked goods

, unless I pick them up at Publix Bakery!) - let me know if there is something I can do to help. I am retired and a raw newbie to the chicken world, but did manage to hang onto a few skills from my pre-retired life. :)
