South Carolina

Hi! I am in SC and just had my first hatch. It was disastrous. 7 eggs, 1 is alive but with severely curled toes, 1 I had to cull and one that pipped, started to zip and then died. I don't want to use the same eggs again. Any suggestions on where I could get eggs close to Laurens?

And about the hatch...the weather has been weird lately with heat then real cool with storms! Humidity and barometric pressure swinging so much outside has to play in there somewhere! Also DixieBeast has straightened a few toes with Band-Aids...I think one time she had camo ones so they wouldn't see it...LOLOL I know she put Angry Birds on there once! too funny!

LOCKDOWN begins tonight...........Lord help me I went crazy and put 9 MFd'Uccles and 4 more EE eggs in the bator...I really have lost my mind. Cause I had such a hard time getting rid of these last babies and I have a giant roo to rehome...

I think most of the MFd'Uccles are spoken for, but the little EE's(Actually I want to do the feather sexing thing) to see how it pans out.!

Oh and I'm building yet another coop....BUT this coop is a serenity coop, for my hens that are getting it bad from the roo and their side are just ripped to shreds...Poor Gals. This is one of the main reasons I want a much smaller nicer roo. What I don't understand is why some hens look like they are ready to go to a show and others are just torn up. Are the more dominant hens less mounted??? One of my orps that just loves me to death runns to my frenchdoors and freaks out til I open the door and she just sits on the rug til the Roo goes away then she takes off and runs to the coop and gets up on the roosting post.(It's so sad)(Usually I follow her so he doesn't catch her).

OH U know I'll post pics of hatching critters and new coop... lol!!!

Edit-I just candled eggs before lockdown and all look good except one EE eggs I think the baby may have died about 10-15days into it. I left it for now,

I will send you a pic tomorrow but ya'll are always welcome to visit...Mom has a super neat one!! Mine is assembled from various other things I put together...it is on the ground so it has a vinyl floor inside and a sand run...the poop sweeps off the floor and I scoop out the sand with a kitty litter scoop!
I want to see you set up.

My hatch a week ago yielded 2 out of 13. Roo and hen by feather sexing. Last night the hen started acting sick. I stayed up til 1:30am nursing her. She was nibbling and drinking when I went to bed. She was worse off this morning. Praying she pulls through.

Anyone have some approx wk old chicks they could sell me? I am willing to pick up. Breed at this point isn't important.

Shame you aren't closer. I have chicks hatching almost daily now.
My incubators are over flowing and stacked with eggs from all my pens because every time I sell and send out eggs I always set some from the same pen to ensure that I know what the hatch can do, at least here at home. I have had too many people get bad hatches from shipped eggs and claim I had fertility problems. Years later, I have a fool proof method and shipped eggs often just do not do well. I could write a book on some of the funny, silly and outrageous emails I get. LOL

Anyhow, surely there is someone close to you with chicks. You can always chance going to TSC or a feed store.

Can I ask why you want the chicks? Are you worried about your one chick being lonely or is it just that you wanted to build a flock and are giving up on the egg idea? I am all new to this!!!
