Update:: I was so disappointed after my last post I went to go unplug my bator and take all the eggs out when I heard a chirp-chirp.. Then one of the tiny cochin eggs pipped on me right there.. may actually get one chick from this one.. Not going to get super excited just yet cause I know it's not definite yet..but I also wanted to say Thank you all for your wonderful support.. I feel quite loved..

So what is it doing now? ..... How about now? Maybe you could set up a camera and we could all be glued to the action! I am glad that your eggs are finally doing something. I hope it goes well for this little one. Any of the other rocking shells doing anything? Did u ever candle them? How many eggs did u incubate?

So far we only have one pip. None of the other eggs are rocking or anything yet, but I'm not giving up just yet. The one that pipped is chirping up a storm. Right now I'm glued to my incubator starring at it waiting to see what's going to happen LOL. Here's a picture of the one pipped cochin egg...

Joycat. It has been a long time since I saw that. Last time I saw it, it was caused by low roosting places ( less then 4 feet high ) Where the chicken would be lazy and just jump off the roost instead of flying off to break the fall. Jumping off and landing on rocky or hard ground can cause bone spurs to cause the swelling and possible infections. but the swelling can be with no infections at all and just inflamation.coup her with ground or cage nesting for a few weeks and see if it goes down. I hate to say this but you may be better off in all aspects to replace the hen instead of her living a life of misery if the foot was broken and will never heal back up right.

Hello everybody, I've been MIA lately but this is a very busy time for me. There is so much to do and not enough hours in the day. I try to read and catch up about once a week but just haven't had time to post much. I have a health issue with one of my hens and need some help. Has anyone seen this before? It's different from any Bumblefoot that I've ever seen and it's in both feet. The poor hen is in pain, she hardly moves around. Other than the foot problem she seems to be in good health. The feet are very swollen and hot to touch. Also, she is in my layer flock, on pasture with about 135 other birds. None of the others are having any problems. I've never seen anything like this. Here's the pictures, let me know if you have any idea what this is. Thanks in advance!

YAY! That's so exciting! I always leave my bator on a few days afterwards just in case! ya never know when you might have a late one!

Just got back from visiting Mary Bell!

I came home with 2 newly hatched 1/2 english black orpington chicks for my loner baby. I have to say I'm kinda glad mama hen didn't accept my little loner bc now I have 2 more cuties from Mary! I got to see her adorable buff silkie babies too! They are just tooooo cute! THANKS MARY! You're the best!!!

Awww they are precious! I almost said the nice side effect of the mom abandoning is you get more babies AND u get to be their mommy. Have fun!
