Looks like you guys had a great time at the cook out. I am sorry I missed it.

I love seeing everyone's new chicks innovations, and projects.

But it is sad to read about the losses.

I have been lucky. I haven't had any dog attacks lately. And I successfully moved the tractors, ducks, and chickens to the new property and they all LOVE it. All the chickens immediately went and hid in a bush. But the ducks flew around a little to stretch themselves and then scouted out the property while we put the coops back together. So funny to see them walking in a row around the property. Like a line of guards doing a security check.

Thank you for taking the time to post this!! I am going to c&p it for reference when we put our new coops up on the new property.

Susan

Two people, so far, have gotten in touch with me about the the gravity waterer that I had posted yesterday. So, I've decided to post the details here, that way everyone will have the information needed to build one.

Materials Needed:

1/2" PVC
1/2" PVC fittings
PVC Glue and Primer
Flexible supply line to fill valve
Flexible gravity fed line
Toilet Fill Valve
5 Gallon See-Through Bucket
5 Gallon Bucket Lid
Watering Cups

First, start by drilling two holes in the bottom of the 5 gallon bucket. One for the fill valve and one for a 1/2" Male adapter. Install both into the the bucket. I put some epoxy around the 1/2" male adapter to keep it from leaking. The fill valve should be fine.

Next, I made the bracket for the bucket. This was accomplished with the use of my router and a flush trim bit. Just secured the plywood on the top of the bucket and router out around the inside of the bucket.

Next, is time to start the plumbing. The line connected to the toilet fill valve is the line that you tie into the house or maybe even a outside spigot(if you have one near by). The line connected to the 1/2" male adapter is the gravity fed line down to the watering cups. Oh, don't forget a vent hole up as high on the bucket as you can get it, without interfering with the lid.

From here on out the plumbing is going to depend on your coop and where you want/need the cups. Hopes this helps you out. If you have any other questions just ask. I'll help you out the best I can. I'm hurrying out the door for Awanas. Let me know if I forgot something.

I am sorry you did not make it to the cook out! We had a blast and maybe next time you can join us with all our fun and games! The kids had fun making "burritos!"

I am glad you have not had anymore dog attacks. I just lost a chick to a cat that has been living here for a few months. I suspected she had been busting the eggs open and eating the insides and kept missing any chicks that hatched in my Silkie/Cochin shed so when she snatched the chick a while ago I felt I had had enough. There is a big hole in my deck but she won't cause any more problems. And stupid me did not even think to look and make sure there weren't any chickens under the deck when I fired. That Saturday Night Special is powerful. All chickens accounted for.

So glad your pets are happy with the move! Now you can sleep better.

I love the water system Free!! That is awsome work and thanks for sharing...

Teresa...I am so glad you and Lou Ann had babies hatch and they are doinfg well!!

Trixie..we really did miss you but you and anyone else is always welcome to come up for a day...we are usually just here doing projects and grilling something most weekends this time of year!!

Amy...hole in deck...ROTFLMB slap off!!

Chick count is still at four with six eggs to go. The first chick hatched around 10 or 11yesterday. The other eggs have not pipped yet, but I think I can hear peeping. How long will mamma stay on the nest? Will she leave at all for food/water/poop? Today or tomorrow was the expected hatch day and these are Maran eggs so the early hatch was a real surprise.

Quick question. . . I ended up having 2 female Muscovy and 2 Male Muscovy. Will they be OK or will I have to get rid of one of the males?

They seem OK now, but they are only about 5 months old as of yet... Just wondering if the males are going to end up fighting...
