It looks as if we have four little fuzz balls from our hatch. Mamma has gotten them off the nest and the eggs were much cooler this morning. Even the hen's body temp felt cooler. We are now debating about adding a few 1-2 day old chicks under her tonight just to increase our chances of having at least four pullets. Here is a picture of their feeding time this morning. Two of them were much more interested in their mamma's wattles!

Those are dried mealworms I started out giving Maranda, the hen. We added chick started and she would eat the mealworms and guide the chicks to the starter that was mixed in. Very interesting to see it all in action.

Anyone know what is going on with BYC? I am getting emails to threads I never subscribed to? Anyone else have this problem? I am going into lock down today. I am a little worried because my temp is fluctuating and I like for my temp to be stable. The next hatch will be in a better location than the dining room! Something like a closet might be better.
Yes, I've gotten a few every now and then. Not too many, not too often. I thought I was having a "senior moment"... maybe I did subscribe?!? Good to know someone else is getting extras!

I do not put my Silkies with my Muscovies. The scovies are sort of rough on something as dainty as the Silkies.

Speaking of which, my good friend, Kimberly, brought me some buff Silkie chicks yesterday!

They have too much smut in them for a Silkie breeding program but do great in my Sizzle program. She knew I had been looking for some and knew I would love her culls. She also brought me a lavender to use!

Gosh, I love my friends!

With this new format I get a lot of crazy stuff from BYC.
Things I KNOW I have not subscribed to I get emails about and things that I have I do not get any notices. Thinking I somehow unsubscribed I go look and find that I am still subscribed but still no notices.
It is no wonder people have gone to FB so much. Those pages are hopping! I usually can not keep up, there is so much chatter.

I also find that I am "following" people now that I never asked to but find that they instead have been "following" me so it must have clicked for both of us.

I also now am getting daily update emails from BYC, which is stupid since my "threads" that I am subscribed to always send me email notices. There is a lot of "junk" with this new BYC system.

Hello SC friends --

Wondering if anyone near Greenville happens to have a Buff Orpington chick or pullet for sale? My "little" boy is turning 13 in 10 days and he requested a Buff for his bday :) He requested a rooster but until I know for sure that I have all "girls" out in the coop already - I don't want to add a roo -- but I want to get him a Buff b/c I think he thinks "no way will I get one!" I would need to pick it up on his bday if I could (the 11th) - in fact....I might just take him on a car ride and surprise him when we get there.

Thanks ya'll --

Jami :)

Yeah, the muscovies don't really mess with the Orpingtons or the barred rock, but they get those silkies whenever they come near. I think I just need to expand their area more, which i plan to do, just haven't had time yet. I really want to keep the mucovies out roaming more often too. But have to wait til I am home more.

Funny though, while the muscovies pick on the silkies when they get too close the silkies pick on my Orps and Barred rocks, even though they are bigger than them now.

My Silkies aren't true Silkies though, they are mixed with Cochin I was told. They have pink skin and feathers on their feet. I don't know though...

Well I went out this morning to find DA my special giunea plucked and bloody from the layer ( freerangers) flock...they have been roosting in the layer coop for over a week...he seems to be going to be ok but was in shock and limp...now he is sitting up in the kennel in the house and resist my affections now!! LOL

Then I found Mr.Peppers hiding and not moving behind the goat barn...looks like Momma goat got a good hit in on him and he is scared to move...if I bring him out of the pen he acts just fine but will just go sit and hide inside. I am selling momma, we had been considering it since she is not as social as I like but with her being such a good breeder we had been holding back

Yancy...I am so sorry about Lucy...

And our newest member...jamij...I hope you find that buff fast...I know where a couple of pullet chicks are but its near Augusta GA...it is a friend of mine and I am not sure if I will be down there between now and the big day but if you do not find one local maybe we can work something out if she doesnt sell them before then!

Awww Sam you have had another rough time of it. Poor animals! Your poor guinea--I wonder why that one because when I saw them they seemed to all huddle together. Are you separating the others now too? Is Mr. Peppers the baby that was tied up? Baaaad mommy! Are any of the eggs you gave me buff orpingtons? Maybe I will have one this weekend? I am not so good with the whole breed thing!!

.The one giunea is always getting "lost" from the group and bugs the gals!! LOL So I am not separating the others...they seem to know how to not get in the way!! And Momma is the one I had tied to kinda protect Mr.Peppers from her but he still forgets and follows the others in her reach...and yes you have 2 Buff mixed eggs...with the BLRW roo they will not be pure but will be buff colored if they hatch like the others I have hatched!!
