Hello SC friends --

Wondering if anyone near Greenville happens to have a Buff Orpington chick or pullet for sale? My "little" boy is turning 13 in 10 days and he requested a Buff for his bday :) He requested a rooster but until I know for sure that I have all "girls" out in the coop already - I don't want to add a roo -- but I want to get him a Buff b/c I think he thinks "no way will I get one!" I would need to pick it up on his bday if I could (the 11th) - in fact....I might just take him on a car ride and surprise him when we get there.

Thanks ya'll --

Jami :)
Well depending on if you are ok with my buff o being mixed with a blrw, I might have a chick for you on the 11th. I am due to hatch this weekend/Monday.

Hi,

Effingham, SC here. Just got our very first chicks (Buff Orpingtons) in March. Unfortunatly is seems we got 1 hen and 5 roosters!

. We heard there is a chicken swap/auction in Timmonsville, does anyone here have any information on it? All we know is that is occirs on Saturdays. We really want to get rid of all the Roosters and replace them with hens!

Jami.
glad to see you found this thread! Everyone here will understand your Guinea keets you hatched recently and the joy of raising them up.
I may have a buff Orp hen for you when you come over next week but let me check tomorrow and see. If so, I will be glad to keep her until your son's B-day. He hasn't been out here to my "jungle" so it may be interesting for him after hearing from his sister what all she got to see.

I will try to remember to email you tomorrow night and let you know what all I have available. Or email me and make sure I remember! Or will you all be gone to the swim meet?

Today has been sad and good....Lets start with the sad.
My Sweet EE Lucy..I found her dead in the coop this afternoon. No marks no way a predator got to her, so I can only think it was a broken egg inside and it got infected. She was a great girl and she will be missed but she leaves behind lots of petty babies including the new rooster. R.I.P Ms Lucy. MAUH!!!

Now at the same time I found my sweet Lucy...I found this under my broody hen

Now this is the 5th brown chick I have hatched from my BOxblueJG and I feathered sex this and I PRAY it's a girl(it looked like a girl) all the others have been boys that started out this color. I do Hope So!!!

Now here's the proud Momma Padma that is the only chicken I have that goes broody and is a Great Mom.

The Last of the good news is...one of the eggs under Ms.Padma is one of Lucy's last fertile eggs. Just an hour ago I went to check on the chicks and under momma and all I saw was the light green shell of Lucy's last egg(so it hatched)....but momma hen had enough of me poking around and I couldn't get a look at it. I'm excited to see what it looks like...

So today in the chicken world one life left me but she sent others to replace her...Love Ya Lucy U rocked!!!!

Well I went out this morning to find DA my special giunea plucked and bloody from the layer ( freerangers) flock...they have been roosting in the layer coop for over a week...he seems to be going to be ok but was in shock and limp...now he is sitting up in the kennel in the house and resist my affections now!! LOL

Then I found Mr.Peppers hiding and not moving behind the goat barn...looks like Momma goat got a good hit in on him and he is scared to move...if I bring him out of the pen he acts just fine but will just go sit and hide inside. I am selling momma, we had been considering it since she is not as social as I like but with her being such a good breeder we had been holding back

Yancy...I am so sorry about Lucy...

And our newest member...jamij...I hope you find that buff fast...I know where a couple of pullet chicks are but its near Augusta GA...it is a friend of mine and I am not sure if I will be down there between now and the big day but if you do not find one local maybe we can work something out if she doesnt sell them before then!
Oh Samantha I am sooo sorry to hear about your bad day :( I hope it gets better for you <3...

Moonchild- Sounds like you've had one of those kinda days as well :( I'm so sorry for your loss. You really do have a great outlook though.. One life is loss, but it was replaced by several new lives.. Congrats on the new chicks..

Seems like today was one of those days for many of us BYC'ers.. I didn't lose any chicks but it was a very stressful day.. I hope everyone has a better day tomorrow ..

Jami--do your kids swim? My boys do. We swim for Newberry but we have also swam at Greenville. Or maybe you guys just do SAIL? My guys are doing a triathlon with their dad in the morning in Spartanburg!!

Oh moonchild--I am so sorry. Your new little chick is precious and I can't wait to see Lucy's baby!!

Thanks everyone for the concern ...I didnt mean to sound complainy...I actually had a good day...DA is doing much better and will be back with the minions soon...Mr.Peppers is out and Momma is better contained so he has less to worry over...I got the Saxony's moved to a new home...and the pool is progressing!!

Yancy I have said earlier how saddened I was by the news but the new chick find is great news!! Lucy was a pretty lady for sure!!

Prayers are needed for Johns mom...her surgery went ok yesterday ( to replace shunt and pump to drain fluid off her brain) but this afternoon she started running a high fever...things are touch and go...we just hope she gets peace soon either way...she has fought a long hard fight.
