Lost a Polish pullet again! 12 weeks old! So depressing! A beautiful blue/black from Walt. I have a white crested black roo I got almost a year ago with his lady. I fell in love with them and the pair was my first "purchased" birds because I fell in love with the rock star roo and his lady! She gave just a few eggs before I found her passed in the coop. Her eggs produced one pullet which I raised till she was ready to go to the coop with the "daddy". She had a couple eggs and had one break inside and she passed too...no hatchlings. This blue pullet was my next chance at him having a mate in a couple more months when I found her passed in the outside brooder. I understand the Polish are hard to raise and reproduce but this is crazy! Between the lines of this story...there are a lot more egglings (is that a new word?) that have either not hatched, or pipped and stopped...or other problems/heartbreaks!!! I just do not have any idea what is up with the Polish! I want to quit but also I just love them and want to keep trying! Because I just love these birds!!! Thanks to my BYC friends and family for letting me blow off some frustration!!!

I was not meaning something was a problem with the ones I got from Walt (I know it is you)...I have had them here for weeks and weeks...she was getting sooo pretty too ...wish I took pics!!!! I am just not having any luck as hard as I try with the Polish...I love them so much and am grateful to find you and be able to get some from you...I hope to hang in there and they hang in with me!!! or else...I will be looking for you for some more! I am just a little depressed and paranoid I am a Polish killer?!?!?! These seem to be a breed I have fell in love with but seem to have a hard time with in my environment...I just don't know...struggling with trying to keep going or (for their sake) giving up here on them...WALT...I must say here...YOU have some beautiful Polish and I am soooo jealous!!!!!!

I am new to chickens and I am in search of Silver or Gold Spangled Hamburgs, Silver or Golden laced Wyandottes, Sicilian Buttercups, as well as Black Copper Marans, I am wanting hens but would consider pullets with a little age on them. I currently have a small backyard flock and I am just wanting some color/egg variety. I am near walterboro right off 95. I know I can order chicks, but I am not ready for 1 day olds if I can help it and Definitely don't want to have to order minimum 15-25 chicks. Hatcheries I have found with min 3 chick order have been sold out on these breeds but like I said not wanting to raise babies just yet. Plus I have only just convinced my Fianc'ee to let me get chickens and babies in the house would be really pushing it. :) The local auction doesn't usually have pure-bloods and very rarely any thing special/different in color mostly just mixed up yard birds. I did get 2 columbian rocks and a light lemon blue cochin rooster but I think he may have something else in him due to he has a bit more tail then most cochin pics I have come across but other wise seems all cochin. well If you have any of these birds available let me know thks J

Good morning.

I just have to share, I picked up 2 pairs of buff silkies Sat. at the chickenswap in Hayesville NC. I have been looking so long for a nice roo. Now I have two.

Plus a couple of nice pullets.

If anyone needs a nice BQ partridge silkie roo, please message me. I have pics if anyone is interested. He has no DQ and he could be shown after he molts. Been fighting with another roo.

Patsy, I am sorry for your loss.

Silkies can be hard to raise also so I know how frustrating it can be.

Welcome!

It's a shame you don't live closer as I have lots of SLW pullets. I have a gorgeous rooster that fathers beautiful daughters. He is from the Foley line but the hens he breeds are from several other bloodlines. I get a lot of girls to hatch from their eggs!
I am not selling Marans until later in the year as I figure out who and what to keep but I usually sell those in pairs if I can. Though the roos are tasty I prefer they are enjoyed alive since they are so beautiful instead of in my freezer. However, this year it seems is a "pullet" year and most of what is hatching is girls! Finally!
