I am wondering the same, I have one little silkie chick (my DS also fell in love with them) in the brooder with 6 black australorp chicks, they are starting to outgrow him/her and I need to start thinking of getting 'little Fro" a partner and if they will need their own private accommodations once they are moved outdoors. I will be looking to puchase a silkie partner in a couple months (Nikki? not sure of your screen name) ThanksHi All! My DD and I have been reading here for a while and she is in love with the silkies! But I could use some more info.
1 - Am guessing they do OK here in SC since you all have them, but are there any special considerations they need?
2 - We have about a dozen full size layers and a roo, will a silkie do OK with that? There is a 9x6 coop attached to a 50x50 run.
3 - Do we "need" more than 1? She is kinda looking for a pet chicken. They are all pets, but some like to be petted more than others.
Thanks in advance. Any advice would be helpful in our future flock plans!
