Hello,
Your "chicken meet-ups" sound like a ton of fun! I'm just writing for a bit of advice from my SoCal chicken friends:
We live in a suburban area and have 2 hens, each about 9 months old. One of them is a leghorn, and she is incredibly loud, from the time the sun comes up. We love her, but I'm afraid we won't be able to keep her because of all the noise -- it's not fair to our neighbors. I spend every morning, from before 6am, out in the yard to try and keep her quiet until a reasonable time of the morning. This is not good.
I am wondering if there is a way to find a good home for her, somewhere her chatter won't be an issue, and maybe exchange her for another hen? I would be happy to buy one or two other hens, and give my sweet leghorn away for free : (
I would love some advice!
