Greetings from South of the Equator! :frow
While things up north are winding down and cooling down ⛄, things down south are heating up 🔥!! Eggs are plentiful abd incubators are firing up ready for those first hatches of the season!

This thread is for anyone south of the equator (we won't turn you away if you're from the north) looking for a HAL to join while the other threads quiten down for their cooler months.🥚🥚🥚🥚

You can hatch:jumpy anything you want (so long as it's legal in your state or territory) and as many as you want (see above brackets) so long as you are gaving fun!!:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy
Tag your buddies below, share your hatches with us, and lets get this HAL crackin!!

Mostly Marans with some Marans crosses (marans over green eggs and pink bloom eggs). A broody beat be and hatched 5 marans and 3 crosses 2 days ago. I have 16 Marans and mixes due in 2-3 days, 6 due in 6 days, 2 in 10 (kids stuck some bantams in) and hopefully 6 more Marans in 14 days.. I'll probably also end up sneaking some quail eggs in soon to surprise one of my sons, he's been asking for more for a while

Very curious what cour eggs they'll end up laying! Quail hatches are the funnest to watch :pop

I’m a bit ahead of the game! I purchased a dozen "rainbow eggs". 9 hatched late last week. I’m in Grafton, NSW.

More chicks out. 4 Marans (3 black copper, one blue copper) 3 olive eggers all black, 2 bantam mixes both barred boys, 1 dominant white mix and one black mix. 2 pipped and 2 eggs with no pip left for this batch.
I may use a Welsummer next year for more chick variety, so many black chicks lol.
Last photo has some older bubs in there to teach them the ropes

How do you go putting different ages in together? I've only tried with ducks and it doesn't go well

Adding fresh babies to week olds usually goes pretty smoothly for me, just some toe pecking which is easily solved by a sprinkle of food to distract the older ones. Older chicks I introduce at food/water change, usually only 2 weeks different in age but I have done 3 and 4 week age difference with older chicks in a pinch.
I think chicks are easier because of the smaller and variable size difference (eg some of my 3 week olds look 1-2 weeks), I tried with ducks once and the older ones were giants!
