I am about to buy my first chicken eggs and I am having a really hard time telling myself no.....especially since my husband is in the doghouse and basically told me I could buy anything that makes me happy. I am itching to use the incubator. Please someone stop me!

Stop you? Hahahahahahahaha.... that's likely. It is far more likely that we will all mail you eggs.

No no no...I need to have some control...but now that the girls are laying and I see the appeal of adding color to my egg basket...omg its hard. I even picked out someplace to get these beautiful blue eggs from. I mean chickens are cheaper by the dozen right???? and since all the ones I got back in October didn't make it I can add more. great now I am talking myself into this...going to bed before I change my mind...and go crazier

Sally, May I suggest using inexpensive eggs for your first hatch? I spent about $150 on our two first batches of eggs that never hatched due to a problem with the control board (on our brand new incubator)...It was heartbreaking to do eggtopsies and see fully formed chicks that never pipped and died in the shell...I really wish that I had done a test hatch and waited to purchase the special eggs after that...

That is what I am waiting for...I already asked the person if I can wait til July, it gives me enough time to hatch out some practice eggs and get everything else settled in house. I said I was going to bed and instead I watched a movie on incubation....really going now. Have a Happy Friday all!

Up since 3 trying to figure out how I am going to keep all these chickens.18 plus 16 Arucana eggs in the incubator as of yesterday.
My nosy Neighbor keep looking over the fence and asking how many I have now.i want to say " none of your business." but the answer is always 8.

Mags how's the baby, and mom?

Happy Friday all.

Just found out that the Sussex poultry show is May 18. I am going to be in Boston.my sons girlfriend is graduating from med school. What a drag. I figured I would sell any of the left over Araucanas I hatched.

Good morning all
Mags- congratulations....please congratulate you son and daughter-in-law also.tell your DIL the best thing she can do for her self after the surgery is get up and walk. Also have a pillow near by for when she coughs .hold it against her abdomen and press into it.
Rosie it was so great seeing you again even if it was for a minute. Please give your son a big hug for me and tell him I know the vet is doing everything possible for his kitten.if he wants to give me a call I would love to talk to him, he can even come over.
I'm sure your vet will work with you as far as a payment plan. Please let me know the outcome of the biopsy.

Well ,chicks ,chicks and fertile eggs. The post office called this morning to inform me the chicks arrived from Ideal.22 living breathing fuzzy butts.
Along with the 6 I brought home yesterday, 2 silkies from the conference in January, 2 polish I got from Christina, and 2 survivors from the original Ideal mess( well second shipment) and 16 Araucana eggs on the door step when I got home yesterday. Quick Suzanne do the chicken math.this isn't even counting my 8 adult girls. Am I in it deep or what.

The first part of the road trip was great. The ride home-HELL.
I was in the car so long yesterday that if I drove straight down RT. 95 I would have been to that cheesy little tourist stop at South of the Border.
But than I wouldn't have fuzzy butts to show for it.
Oh Thank you, Carol! I went to visit my fuzzbutt yesterday, and, well, he's not a fuzz butt right now-shaved like a sheep. His behind and belly are bald, and his incision is about 2 inches long, but it's a good looking thing, not even a little pink. I'm very happy. As soon as I opened his cage, he got right up came over, purred like crazy on rolled over and grabbed my hand to scratch him. I daresay he's feeling better. He still had the cath in, but that came out last night-I should be getting an update in an hour or two. I may bring him home today!
Yesterday while changing their water, one of the braver chicks pushed the door open and proceeded to run circles around the living room with her wings up in the air like an emblazoned freedom fighter.
She dodged the dog, skitted under my son's wheelchair and somehow, for a full 2 minutes, managed to escape my grasp. Grandpa had to physically restrain the cat.
Seriously. NEVER a dull moment.

Rosie, I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I understand the desire to hang on and never give up. If the vet will work with you, go for it. It was explained to me that the cats likely will never block again after their sex change operation. Just be honest with your son and if youre a woman of faith, help him lean on his faith to make it through. My eldest son has a fatal form of Muscular Dystrophy and his very best friend in the whole world happens to be a 16-year-old cat. I dread the inevitable every single day. For both of them.

If there's anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate. I am a woman of deep faith, and my children are raised with it as well. There's been alot of praying going on this week. I'll add your family to my prayers. Thank you for the kind words.
Rosie, I'm hoping that your vet will work with you on your bill. May Kairi heal speedily and smoothly, and never blockage again. I'm continuing to send good thoughts Kairi's way!
Thank you!! He seems to be bouncing right back. I hope he continues. When I saw him yesterday, it made me feel so much better and I left with the knowledge that I did the right thing for him.
I'd intended to introduce myself on this thread earlier. My apologies! I'm Patti, and my fiance and I live near Hampton Bays. I moved here from Massachusetts last summer. We have a German Shepherd, a mellow grey fluffy cat, and a vegetable garden. Our small flock of rescues has just 5 girls and a bantam mix rooster. They're our much-loved family members, and we enjoy the eggs! My interests are nature, T'ai chi as an instructor before moving here) and I'm a Reiki practitioner.

I'm very pleased to meet everyone!

LOL. Hi Patti!! I have a shepherd as well! Missy is a Shiloh Shepherd, which is a german Shepherd with a straight back and a soft temperament. She's 90 pounds of 7 year old puppy with a sweet attitude and a ditzy way of dealing with life. I adore her.
I have always been very interested in Reiki. If I had the time to spend, I'd study more about it. Welcome!

3, huh? I got up at 4-we ran out of oil yesterday, and since I have the heat off and the fireplace on, I had no idea until 11 o'clock when my tenant finally decided to let me know (but she was home all day-and didn't want to bother me!) I got up and went to get Diesel fuel to kick start the oil burner early this morning.
My neighbors have no clue how many chickens I have, and if anyone asks, I have 6. Hopefully, nobody comes over and actually counts. I am a fibber.

So you could have called me at 4 and we could have planned your chicken multitudes!

Ok, I guess I have to feed my littlest one-he's eating his second banana, waiting on some eggs...
