Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Thank you very much. I see the concerns and am going to do my best. Bringing her home she was sneezing or coughing so I'll have to watch that. I didn't notice anything but I applied some DE to her and washed her feet. I have two pairs of sneakers to switch between the two areas. I didn't notice till on the way home...well my wife noticed when I stopped at her job to show her that "Rosie's" beak has been clipped...looks awkward.
Anything I can do about the sneeze or cough if it continues? Her eyes are clear and no mucous observed yet. Got her at Raleigh Farms in Kings Park.

Sneezing or coughing can be as simple as an awkward moment with a piece of hay or grain.
Or, well.... you have already been primed for the other stuff. Avian vets have a special tool to look into the throat, it looks like a big paper clip with a handle on it. It's uses to hold the beak open to get a good look inside for any indicators of illness.
If she's a calm bird, you can usually get them to open up without it, but it's not too easy to see a problem unless you know what you are looking for.
See how she acts over the next few days. She may have just been grabbed by the neck to stuff her into a box, you just never know.

Hey queenchick16...I got her from Raleigh Farm in Kings Park. By the way everybody...I took my son to football practice tonight at 6 and when we got home around 8, the new girl, Rosie, already gave us an egg...layed it right on the ground. Bad part is she's an escape artist and got out. She was walking on the hill where the other girls usually go when they are out, but I kept them in today. Problem is she was near their run and too close. I hope she doesn't have anything and they caught it. I am way paranoid now:(

Happy Saturday folks. I'm on my way in to Commack to drop my truck at a friends house-the rear needs a boost to support my camper-we've been riding on the ground all summer. The kids and Danny leave on Tuesday morning, (my oldest sons birthday) to go camping with Danny's old firehouse. I get 3 days without them. (WHich translates to "I have so much to do while they're not underfoot")

Football practices start this week for my little guy and my middle schooler starts in September. I'm already getting excited-we picked up Mac's gear yesterday. Now let's hope the NFL season isn't an embarrassing mess like usual...
I can't believe the summer is half over! Next Sunday we leave for Montauk again, and that's going to be fantastic. So while the family is away, I'll be getting stuff ready for that trip!

Mammo6, that's a sweet little hen! Good Luck with her!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! We need to go out for lunch again really soon! All the new folks need to join us too!

Mammo, everything is going to be fine.

Rosie, I so envy you. I need to go on a camping trip. My friend is at Indian point? This weekend. Told me to come on out. My husband just doesn't do camping any longer .lunch is good. We can even have it at my place. Order pizza or Chinese, sit in the back yard under the trees and watch the chickens. Something new for everyone lol.

Well the little 7 week old roo hasn't attempted to crow again. I shouldn't even say it out loud.

Rosie, enjoy your time alone.

Hi! We are in Central Dutchess county. We raise chickens for eggs and meat. We pasture raised Jumbo cornish cross this year. They were unbelievably tasty!
Have ten turkeys started for thanksgiving , for family and friends.
Additions to our farm are 11 alpacas , 10 guinea fowl, two donkeys, two dogs, and two cats.

Having lots of fun with our chickens!
