Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Hi, Everyone,

It's Carolyn in Freeport. (south shore of Nassau County.)

I'm still hoping to find someone who can sell me two (large fowl, not bantam)
buff Orpington pullets that are point-of-lay in age.

Need them to have been Mareks vaccinated.

Do you know of ANYONE who might have two such
pullets available and can ship them to me overnight?

I would be more than happy to pay for the birds, the box, and all shipping charges.

Not looking for show quality; just plain ole pretty and friendly
will be just fine.

I thought I had this search satisfied when I found someone on Craigslist in the Maryland/Delaware/
Virginia area last month. He promised to hold them for me for two more weeks and then ship them to
me in mid-March at age 16 weeks but now he won't answer my phone calls or my emails. SO frustrating. I needed them to grow a bit
bigger so they could hold their own against my big Delaware hens. At least I haven't lost any money, so I'm just frustrated, not actually wronged.

I've sent request emails to Orpington breeders, hatcheries, farms, clubs, etc., and posted ads on forums at several different websites, but no luck so far.

Thanks,
-Carolyn

Gosh , I thought you had that covered.
Remember, I will be in Harrington at the end of the month, and can pick them up for you.
I'll look into it for you.

OK, I put a post on facebook, in the New England chicken thread, and contacted someone that breeds BO's.
Hopefully something comes thru

Came home to find Roosterman had started on the footing for the coop. He had to place it in a different position from the plans, but it probably works out better because the coop side will be nearer to the electric connection. I just need to flip flop the plans so the coop is on the west side and the run on the east. Plus add that extra 2 ft, of course. Bobby's moving full speed ahead, which I knew he would be once he got a hammer in his hand...

Two red-tailed hawks in the yard today. Bobby said the girls were hiding in the corner all afternoon. Can't wait to get the big run done so they can have a place to be safe.

How many nest boxes do 8 hens really need? I hear they usually share them. I found plans for a coop I want but it has boxes on both sides of the coop and I thought maybe I could eliminate one. The place I'm putting the coop will be difficult to get to the far side for egg collection (i would have to walk though their pen). Anyways it's the Daisy coop a few sites including MPC sell the plans. It's bigger than I need but that chicken math will get me I am sure.

The Sussex County Fairgrounds, in Augusta, NJ, May 19th. I am guessing around 9 am or so. It is in the poultry barn that is used for the NJ state fair and is pretty open air. The sales area last year was in one of the large livestock barns (open sides).

There is a pet expo at the fairgrounds that same day and usually a farmer's market in the building on the left just as you enter the maingate. The fairgrounds website has all kinds of information on directions to hotels and stuff.

The facebook page is Sussex County Poultry Fanciers.

There is a NJ thread on here that Mame1616 usually posts about the sussex show and such if you want to keep up on that.
