I found this picture online of a feather that has feather mites. Looks like the feathers on some of my birds.

My new coop kit was delivered today from HandcraftedCoops.com. Went together really easily, and the flock is already moved in. Posted some pics in the Coop thread:

Has anyone else gotten one of these coops? I'm happy with it, though it is a tad bit smaller than I had envisioned. Definitely big enough for my 4 Japanese Bantams, but I wouldn't add too many more!

On another note ... anyone know if the film student guy had any luck getting some chickens for his project? If I hadn't taken today off to get this delivery, I might have been able to wrangle tomorrow off to let the birds have their shot at fame ... LOL.

NO!! I don't want to see what you THINK it is, I want you to look and see if there actually ARE bugs ON your birds. So many times, we use chemicals for no reason. Lice you will be able to see easily, mites, not so easy.... If you pluck a feather out, there may be some crumbs near the base, that is the scabby goo that they get when they get bitten.
Sorry to sound crabby. I have a high stress job. No, I take that back. I work with morons. And my customers are even more moronic.
MO mo mo mo hee, hee!

George, I think we have it covered... too bad bantams probably wouldn't work. My friend Vera is going, and I may tag along. It sounds like the story line is this kid rescues layers from some factory farm. I really haven't had an urge for bantam eggs from the grocery store. I have to sneak them in my egg cartons, 11 bigguns, 1 bantam. It's kinda cute for the kids, "and this one is yours"...
But we may call you for moral support. Women alone in the middle of nowhere...guy says he's doing a movie... Sorry Alex, there's always another side to look at!

LOL don't worry about my feelings my skin is very thick. As for seeing actual bugs, I did a quick inspection last night and didn't see any. But did find their belly feathers to look like the pic I posted. When I get home tonight I will do a thorough inspection.
