Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Very nice so far. I would like to come look at it when finished. I got perfectly good windows at the recyling center (dump) on old indian head rd. (town of smithtown residents)

Maybe we should have a coop warming party. With BBQ chicken and deviled eggs, of course!

That would be cool and everybody wears wacky chicken themed shirts and brings a treat for the girls but be careful what you wish for we could all come over the day before easter

I think you could use a couple of emus running around the backyard! They have such beautiful eyelashes.

Oh and look what I just found, a recipe for Emu egg quiche:
http://homesteaderssupply.blogspot.com/2012/02/real-women-eat-emu-quiche.html

apparently it only takes ONE emu egg to feed a family of 6! Not quite sure how you open the dang thing though....

Love the asian ground parrot thing - totally going with indonesian jungle birds if I get into a fight over livestock vs. pets with someone. Seriously though, and I know some of you have parrots, but I would never want to keep a wild animal. It makes so much less sense to me that I could get in trouble for having a domestic animal being kept in its natural environment while my neighbor that has a parrot that stays indoors 24/7 - that's ok? Makes no sense to me.

Very good point, Heather!

My parrots go outside when it's nice out. I roll the big cage out on the deck, and they watch the chickens!

Well I can't wait till my husband gets up. The rooster started in at about 5:45 this morning. My husband just got back yesterday from visiting my son up in Boston so he hasn't heard him yet. Man am I going to be in the dog house or should I say chicken coop.I really have to find out if my neighbors are hearing him.He is a very considerate rooster he only crows (or should I say attempts to at this point) two or three times then he stops... Wish me luck
