Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

That sucks. I am having anxiety now also. Work just cut my commission check $200. a month without telling me.
I confronted my boss, his answer was "I thought she did that a while ago"
I haven't had a raise in 7 (yes SEVEN) years, and now they cut me?
I gave them 2 weeks notice. My husband is furious that I didn't discuss it with him.
So maybe I'll drop dead at work, and THEN I can be happy.
UGH
I think I would rather work at McDonalds right now, I am so mad at everyone.

Gunnar, I have some Thai gamefowl, and have finally realized I need to get rid of them.
Will be bringing them to the show in CT, I have someone interested in them.

Roberta, that totally sucks! That's it. I say we open a hatchery right here on Long Island. A big single finger salute to them all!

This morning Shirley (bottom of the pecking order, most friendly and best layer) was afraid to come down the ladder from the roost. She's such a chicken! (get it?

) But she still left me a big beautiful egg. I miss being home with my girls.

I hope Bobby's working on the roof. It's going to rain big time this weekend. He was finished adding to the fence before I even left for work this morning. We put 1ft of hardware mesh above the fence line to try to keep Ms. Gladys in the yard.

TGIF. I think I'll take Tuesday and Wednesday off next week. Because I can!

I think molasses can cause diarrhea (at least I know I have been advised to use it to help them get things moving). If she/he is not eating you can try making a mash out of the chick crumbles and some warm water. If it was cocci she would probably have bloody poop (at least that is one of the major signs). I hope the wee one feels better soon (you too

Thanks Christine. I read the same thing. I also read that sugar water (or salt water for that matter) causes diarrhea by drawing water into the intestines via osmosis (thank you 9th grade Bio!). If you need to flush out a poison, then you would dose very high amounts of sugar / salt. I was just hoping for an energy boost, so I gave her a little bit of sugar. I went with black strap molasses cause it has other good things in it like iron and minerals and it dissolves better in water.

I made scrambled egg this morning and added some of the chick crumbles, plain greek yogurt and extra yolks I had in the fridge. I couldn't get her to eat it. She looked better this morning but now she's back to droopy wing, eyes closed, standing.

Heather, maybe she's dehydrated? How about eyedroppers full of water with Sav-A-Chick? I was thinking about it during last night's bout of insomnia. Since she's not exposed to the other birds or to any foreign food, that's all I could think of.

I don't have any Sav-A-Chick on me. Her stool has no blood in it. Do any of your chicks have any issues? Donna? Any signs of illness? The only thing I can think of is being handled by people too much but I was very strict about hand washing before and after. The bag of feed was brand new, I opened it for them and it has been indoors the whole time so no chance of getting mold on it. I've been cleaning the water dish regularly, keeping the food clear - even put down chips twice over their litter even though it wasn't that dirty at all. Should I change the box out? I do have three different medications in the house from when my Sussex was sick but I'm hesitant to try anything on her since she's already on medicated feed, and the other one isn't sick at all. Also how do you even calculate dosage for something that doesn't even weigh two ounces at best?

I might try putting a drop of the crumbled egg/mash/yogurt in her beak and a dosage of water. I agree Suzanne, dehydration is such a quick killer for any sick animal, it's probably where I should start. Poor thing....

Sorry about everyone's anxiety & insomnia. That's the worst. I used to get really bad bouts of not being able to turn my brain off, tossing and turning, same deal. Things vastly improved after I a)stopped talking to my mother and my sister and b)started exercising more. I know, you're rolling your eyes, but I promise if you get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes you'll sleep much better later that night. Don't know about not talking to my mother, but if you don't know her, I don't advise you start, lol.

I went to see my doctor yesterday because of difficulty sleeping. I get into bed, exhausted usually, and then my adrenaline starts pumping and I can't relax enough to fall asleep. When I do fall asleep, I wake up after a couple of hours and the whole thing starts all over again.

When I started telling her about the situation with my job, I started to cry. She told me it's anxiety and depression. She gave me a prescription for Xanax to catch me up on some sleep.

The funny part is, when I asked for a note to show I was there, the receptionist gave me a note saying I didn't have to go back to work until May 1st. Pretty tempting!

Can't hear the girls in their new coop. I know they're squawking, but we can't hear them. Which is sorta the point....

Right now, Bobby's got his ipad out and is brushing up on shingling a roof. Guess I know what he's got planned for the day!
I'm sorry to hear of your problems. I hope the best for you. I hade serious work related stress issues too. Anxiety Nightmares and to top it off serous marital issues at the same time. Ended up having a breakdown being hospitalized. Now I'm job free Husband free and my life is starting to turn around. I applied to school For vet technology, I can't go back to being a chemist and I love animals so I'm gonna give it a try. I hope things get better for you soon, and remember all the good things You still have, like Bobby and the girls :) HUGS

When my chicks where sick MPC told me give them sugar water
You can put a few drops in the beak every little while. The also
Said scrambled or mashed hardboild eggs with the medicated food.
Keep them warm and stress free and that's all. Their isn't much u can do
When they are that little. I hope with all my heart she pulls through.

Hi guys. Everyone seems to have had a bad week. Suzanne, hang in there. I'm sure the meds will help you get over the hump. Things also have a way of working out, and you've got a great team there with Bobby.

Roberta, sucks is the word for it. I can understand how you feel and why you wanted to leave. Precisely what my son did when he was a dealer tech. He's much happier now that he's out of that business.

Heather, I hope the chick makes it. I'm sure you are doing everything you can. I also know what you mean about the allergies. This year is the worst I can remember. I slept all day Tuesday, most of Wednesday and part of Thursday. My sinuses are about to pop. I really am considering a move out of the state if it could bring relief. Probably only Alaska would do, knowing my luck.

I hope everyone can salvage a good weekend out of this. With the rain and all coming, maybe it's a good time to relax and wind down. Way too much stress in all our lives.

Yes, I have been trying that. I just got an email from a friend who suggested raw egg yolk by eye dropper and she was able to take some. I also gave her some more water. The brooder thermometer is at 97.5o and she is right up underneath the warmest spot. I feel so terrible, like it was my over-handling of her that did it, but then the other one is flying already and walking up and down the practice roost stick like a pro so I'm guessing it's just something she had already. Suzanne if there is a refund from the breeder, keep it. I'll let you know if she doesn't make it. Spend it on Kale for your girls - you know how crazy I am for greens!

I am slowly working my way from the front of the house to the back putting the seeds in, but naturally there were like four other projects that needed to be done as well like scrubbing the banister with bleach water, digging up a dead barberry bush and spraying the roses with horticultural oil. Good thing i just told you all how good exercise is for you or I'd be looking for a power nap about now. Al they said on the news that this is the worst it's been for tree pollen in years because of the hot couple of days we just had coupled with no rain. My car was covered in yellow pollen in one day, and it's not even parked outside overnight. Bleh.

Roberta I am really sorry about your job, that just stinks. I think you and Suzanne should totally start selling fresh eggs to the sumer folks. Bobby can offer to build coops for them on their penthouse decks. Seems like we are all just about ready for spring weather in general. I wish I could make it to the show in CT but alas that's too far for me. I am still hoping to go to the one in NJ on May 20th, even though my girls' preschool has this big carnival the same day. I'm a terrible mother, I know, but I did my time last fall and last year. Husband can get it done this time!

I have a whole bunch of extra seeds from like two seasons ago that I misplaced and found again - anyone planting veggies want some? I'm happy to put together a gift package for you. Note that even though today is supposed to be some sort of big Mary Jane smoke-out day I will not be included "those" seeds, lol. I honestly wouldn't know where to find them or what to do with them. Maybe we all need a relaxing brownie or two this afternoon, and an hour watching chicken t.v.

Sending you all happy thoughts & love & feathers -

I have an iPad/iPhone app called Simply Being that guides you through meditation. You can set it for 5 mins or longer. Naturally I haven't had the time or really made the time to use it as much as I should but it is very good and helping you calm yourself. Maybe try it long before bedtime so you can process your anxiety before you hit the pillow.
