Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Carol, such sympathetic rants are always welcome!

I'm happy to report the medication helped. I was able to sleep. I woke a few times, but fell back to sleep with no problem. We went to Home Depot right after breakfast at our favorite coffee shop, then came home and finished the roof. I helped by cutting the shingles. I also put shingle pieces on the ladder up to the roost to make it easier on the girls. I put a couple of cross pieces on the pop door to give them traction as well. We used extra paneling pieces on the shelves to make them easier to clean.

Right now, Aretha is freaking out trying to figure out where to lay her egg. She keeps circling the old coop, which is locked up and pushed out of the way. She's explored the new nesting boxes and the other girls are using them, so I guess she'll get it eventually.

We're heading to Peter's now to deliver his chicks. And try to convince him to take the old coop off our hands!

And, thanks be to God, I'm almost done with the massive blanket I'm making for my brother. Just have to put the border on. The thing is a MONSTER!

Here's where we're at with the coop.

Wow AWOME.

You must be thrilled :)

My girls are out in the play pen.
I think I have to keep them inside the next 2 days
cause the rain. Am I being overprotective? They
are only 8 weeks.
Everytime I put them out they GROW
It's unreal. I want to let them free range
A little with me and Charlie-rooster-dog
Watching but I'm scared to lose them.
I'm such a nervous first time mom.

Roberta, that would be great! I am really reluctant to borrow beautiful Blanche or Mabel, just in case there is something wrong that I am doing. :( I will take a healthy bantam mutt baby. Are you and Suzanne driving together? I live right near I95 / Hutchinson River Parkway aka the Merritt so I can either meet you or give you directions to my house that shouldn't take you too far out of the way.

OK, I need to pack the car, and look at the map, and see how to do this tomorrow morning.
Give me a little while to calm down from work, check the map, and get back to you.
It would be best either meeting me on the way up, or having the baby go home with another peep from here.
TTYS, Roberta

I sent you a PM with all the addresses I could think of and our contact info. Please feel free to suggest a different meeting spot if none of those work for you!

Finished all the seeds today, and the tomato plants. Please oh please no freezing temps! I will be so ******. Good luck at the show - :)

Mine are 8 weeks also. I will open the door and they can choose. They are fully feathered. If they do something stupid(like stand in the rain all day, I will chase them back in if I can). They newest hatch(less than 1 week, will stay in.

Suzanne the coop is amazing! I can't believe how fast you finished it. Really, really gorgeous. So glad you got some rest, too -

Roberta, thank you so much! Cinnamon is now baby Chipmunk (of course) but has settled in well. She is eating and napping, and big sister Tiana is being very tolerant, even grooming her a little bit. I told the girls that the Fairy Chicken Godmother heard how sad they were to lose Ginger so she brought Baby Chipmunk in the night time so Tiana would have a sister again. Fingers crossed Chipmunk is a she!

May the Fairy Chicken Godmother bring everyone lots of goodies today -

edited to add:
We have also instituted a no-touching rule for the first week just in case it was some sort of preschooler borne disease that made Ginger sick. I have learned the hard way that toddlers and preschoolers are the #3 disease vector after rodents and mosquitos. Plus Tiana can now fly out of the brooder box so the screen lid stays on anyway.

Heather, that story made my morning!

The two chicks are totally settled down into a big sister - little sister mode now. Thank you so much, Fairy Chicken Godmother Roberta! The girls are thrilled, and so am I. She's beautiful, and she's already even perching on the stick in the box, a good sign. I will take some photos later on when they are even more settled in.

How did you do at the show?
