Bobby and your husband sound like twins separated at birth! He's almost 60 but is still friends with guys from High School! He has one or two really close friends and that's it. He has a couple of cousins, but no brothers and sisters. I come from a big boisterous family - very loud and talkative. Bobby has a good time with them but getting him there is another story!

One of the big discussions about our little trip was whether or not we were going to my brother's house for his party. Which is funny because he always has a great time.

I think he just hates anything new. Unless it's a tool or a gadget, of course...

I agree with you to an extent-that's why I really liked this helmet. It has shock absorbers. Very cool. But nothing compares to technique. They need to learn how to hit, in order to avoid injury.

It's probably not a well thought out past time!

But heck-at least they wear helmets and pads! (for their moms benefit!) My daughter got hit with a LAX ball in the head-out for almost 2 months with a concussion. SHE needs a helmet!
My dh was a HS football coach for 5 years. Nopw he's woprkoing too much OT to do it anymopre. My son played both football and LX.
No-one should be head butting period. My son had 2 concussions because of un-sprtsmanship conduct on other's parts. Scary stuff.
But if you think football is a violent sport then don't watch LX. It makes you cringe when those sticks began flying. But I liked it even better than football! We took the
city championship in 2009 think it was. Never a dull moment!

I'm so out of the sports loop, it ain't even funny. I've never watched a game of football and don't know what LAX is. I thought it only meant the airport in Los Angeles.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have to confess that one of my grandsons is a rockclimber. Oy. I can't bear it. He surfs, and climbs, and sails, and unicycles, and bike marathons and is smart enough to never tell me about it.

It's enough for me to see the photos that he posts on facebook. There he is, a zillion feet up a sheer cliff; lots of ropes, And NO helmet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be still my heart.

I ADORE LAX!! Both my older sons played school lacrosse since 2nd grade. My little guy starts next year. My daughter played JV, and next year she'll play varsity. I prefer boys LAX. The girls are very underdressed-only eye protection, short little skirts, and the same hard ball that moves just as fast as when the boys throw it. Boys get physical-it's like football with sticks. I do like the contact sports, but unsportsmanlike behavior, I find, isn't given enough of a penalty most of the time.

You are right-there should be no head butting in either sport, and there should be an additional penalty and removal from the game for intentional injury. We played ESM 2 years ago, and it was the most unbelievable, violent game I've ever seen. It was a GREAT game, though, once our boys realized the other team wasn't getting penalized for their behavior-the coach set them loose and ESM forgot that all our boys play together on both the football and LAX teams. LOL. Then a FATHER started a fight with ME, for telling one of their moms that she couldn't run onto the field after her kid (who she screamed CHECK HIM at for 3 quarters) got knocked on his butt. I was trying to save their team from a forfeit. (parent on the field is a forfeit for that team)
Concussions scare the daylights out of me, but now at least there are laws and controls when a child gets his/her bell rung. several years back they told my older son's friend to shake it off, and he played a whole half of a football game with double vision. He was out for the rest of the season once his mom took him to the doctor after the game.

My daughters games are too calm, besides the "ball, ball, ball" yelling like those obnoxious seagulls in Nemo. I like action!!

This year is my 11 year olds first year playing school football as well as PAL football. His team will be these same boys...they are an incredible force. Amazing to watch on the field. My son, who is a sensitive animal lover that cries when he watches animal planet, becomes a vicious animal on the field. He's (literally) 72 pounds but can take down a kid a foot taller and 100 pounds heavier. It bring a tear to my eyes.

A rockclimber? Eeesh! I am deathly afraid of heights! My kids went cliff diving last week when we were upstate. They wanted to show me the waterfall and oh how pretty...I couldn't get out of my truck. I sat and cried. That's how bad my fear is.

My husband went to see, and I had palpitations until they all got back safely.

UH HUH!!! To hang a picture, my husband has to have 14 different power tools and a laser level. I use a nail and hammer.

Your friend is lucky to have a BFF like you! I'm sure the eggs and chicks will be fine! Is this the batch that you thought wouldn't hatch at all?

Just think how many more chickens you'll be allowed to keep at your parents' house when your mother watches one hatch! It's a slow process. You won't miss much. Other than the constant bator checking. Your mom can do that for you!
