Um.... six.That's the legal limit.
However, chicken math has gotten the best of me.
Somewhere between 6 and 200, pretty much right smack in the middle.
Unless you are from the town. Then I have 6 hens.![]()

FYI it also depends on what kind of slobs your chickens are. Mine were wasting a lot of food by throwing it all on the floor. Nothing I did seemed to work, raising the feeder, lowering the feeder, changing the feeder, etc. I finally tried cutting a piece of large gauge chicken wire to cover the food - check out TillysNest.com for directions - and that seems to have finally worked. In the warmer months you can also let the chickens free-range and they won't eat as much feed then. Just watch for predators etc. There's different opinions on how much table scraps to give your birds.... some say none, others say a little, some feed the chickens almost entirely from left-overs. I'm thinking there are more expereinced owners on here that will set me straight. I try to limit bread & dairy and just give them left over veg, fruit, etc. They do love the fish that die in the freshwater tank.... sigh....Thanks toxic that is exactly what I needed to hear.

Those are GREAT prices. I'm going to check with my local Lowes!! Thanks!!!For those of you who do canning, lowes is having fifty percent off select canning supplies etc. I want to learn so I picked up the balls guide as someone suggested and a few cases of jars.
The sale is regional so checkout the website with your zip code first, and it last until January but many stores are running out. Since I am a first timer I don't know if the prices are great but 12 32 ounce jars are $5.29, 9 24 ounce jars $5.43 , 4 8 ounce $1.49.
Happy shopping![]()
and someone sent me this link to a lecture series - http://www.thinkinganimals.org/lecture_series.html - that looks fascinating, especially the one on the 26th -
Great pic of your hen with the pumpkin.
I've been preparing all the veggies I got from my
CSA yesterday. I need to take up canning. Gonna
go check out Lows.
