Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Welcome, Harvorview Hens. Great to have another chicken-head on board. You should love it here and find a load of new friends here. This is one amazing and friendly group. Of course, being a little crazy help you to fit in. Don't worrry, if you're not a bit crazy now, we'll help you get there.LOL. Seriously, you will enjoy it here.

Heather, I looked up the stuff on parsley last night, and it is very interesting. Let me know if you do find out anything you'd like to pass along. Everything helps.

The trip to the Zoo sounds like it could work, and im sure it will be lots of fun. It's pretty centrally located for all of us on this thread, too. Keep us posted.

Some local law maker is going to get that article and we will be screwed. No wonder we have to keep things under wraps. I can't let go can I. Just tell me to stop...
No worries, I understand completely. And yes, taking a chicken to the vet doesn't help anyway in many circumstances. My friend Laurie who you met has chickens too but admits that she doesn't know a lot about chicken diseases. It's not what most vets are trained in.

The article was from the UK though and they restrict giving animals any kitchen leftovers. Aren't most diseases or bacterias wiped out from cooking food well? Sheesh! If a chicken can't eat our leftovers, why the hell are we eating it? I'd rather see our kitchen scraps go the hens who always appreciate the extra snacks then see it fill up our landfills. There is waaay too much waste in this country as it is.

I went to Waldbaums the Sunday after Thanksgiving because we didn't get any turkey day leftovers from dinner so I made my own. Turns out they were having a sale on turkeys at like 49 cents a pound. I got two which was all I can fit in my freezer. I asked what happens to the rest? He said they would be throwing them all out tonight as the sell by date was the next day. Makes me really sick because the birds died for nothing and there are so many people out there who go to bed hungry or in some countries are dying of starvation and we throw out food like it's nothing. Not to mention filling up the landfills with the garbage. And feeding rodents, which unfortunately as a chicken keeper happens too.

I agree 100% . When Richard was growing up he would raise pigs, goats etc. he would go dumpster diving at Mc D's to feed his pigs. Now it is illegal. What a waste.....

Al its Hero Food, by Seamus Mullen. The basic cure smoothie is handful of parsley with lemon juice and apple juice. It's a gorgeous cook book with the very gorgeous Mr Mullen on the cover (swoon) and the recipes are Spanish in nature. I am going to read it tonight.

Maggie, I'm leaving right now. Call me if you want me to pick up food or anything 631-haha

Does anyone remember my story? It's gone away from my original idea quite a bit due to criticism from some people in the children's book industry. Here's the latest version, thoughts? Obviously, it's for very young ones. My plan is to submit the story and the 2 illustrations I did and see if anyone is interested, I sure hope so!

Where is that peep?
It’s time for some sleep.

Is he hiding in the book?
Let’s take a look!

Is he with Mr. Bee?
What do you see?

Is he with Mrs. Doe?
I’d sure like to know.

Is he with Mr. Cat?
I really doubt that!

Is he with Mr. Cow?
He’s not there now!

Is he with Mrs. Duck?
No such luck!

Is he with Mr. Fish?
Oh how I wish!

Is he with Mr. Sheep?
I don’t hear a peep!

Is he with Mrs. Hare?
I don’t see him there!

Is he in the red shed?
I think I see his head!

He’s asleep in the nest,
Who would have guessed!

Oh my goodness Roberta os coming over!!!

I love it, and I'm an expert. Just ask my former school district!

The only thing is, the final line should end with a question mark...(Sorry, I can't help myself).
