Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Welcome Harbour View! Your mystery bird looks like an EE to me.:)

Suzanne like them both but the winged peeps get my vote. ....nice job!

Where is Rosie? Still MIA??

Cold here lately, high winds and I don't like it one bit. Snow today.....ugh...winter BE GONE say I

my roofer is finally comming today for downpayment so we can get my new roof rolling along.

I have my blue orp Bart listed in the sale section if anyone is interested. I have a guy coming next week for him unless I find a better place in the meantime.
Also a white silkie rooster. My second silkie began to crow this week so good-bye to at least one of them if not both. boo hooo.

Thanks magsrags! I pretty much thought so.

Had an exciting experience this morning while in the run with the girls. Crows were going ballistic. Suddenly the girls all looked up and ran under the coop. Big shadowy bird lands in the tree in my backyard. I exit the run to see a bald eagle holding a long branch. We have been seeing them regularly. It looked at me for about a half minute then tried to fly off but dropped the limb. There is non mistaking the white head and tail plus the sheer size of it. It was good to know that my girls have their predator instincts working just fine.

Oh wow! Crazy, bad eagles - huh? I hope I see one too, just not anywhere near my hens!

We have them near the hudson river in Port Ewen..see them all the time at my moms house! Beautiful birds! My mom loves taking pics of them.

Hi Coupe, You are right across the river from me (Po'k/HydePark), in fact, I'll be at Tractor Supply in Highland tomorrow if the roads are clear and the bridge is safe to cross. Tina

Wow! To the bald eagle sighting! That's pretty darn cool, if a little scary to see near your chicks as you say. I used to see them over the Hudson River when I lived in Dobbs Ferry around March. The river freezes over further north by that time and they got pushed down to my area. So freaking cool....

I actually came here to post another cool bird-nerd link I got from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology:

This is an amazing, short video of Birds of Paradise. If ever there were a species accurately named, well - it's just astonishing.

I am so exhasuted right now; I spent the whole day wandering around NYC with my college roommate and four girls ranging from 6 to 2yrs old. It was raining. Argh. I begged her to come visit me up in Westchester but she wasn't having it. What is so exciting about crowds, subways and shoving? The older I get the further away from the city I want to be. I need more space. I need... more chickens.

Anyone want to design me a dual purpose garden shed / bantam / quail coop building? I feel like making a fantasy drawing on paper and just seeing what happens. I wish I could actually build stuff like Suzanne's husband but sadly unless we are talking gingerbread I am at sea.

Keep those cool links coming! I think it is a great idea to start drawing a combo coop and shed. Why not sketch something up and post a picture here or on the coop thread to ask for input? I've been doodling and drawing for about a month now, in hopes that my hubby will come through on his offer to get us a chicken barn this spring. I need to design everything so that is easily accessible for Lindsey, with an efficient layout and with as many automated features as possible to reduce maintenance. I'd love to share ideas with you...

God bless you for taking your little ones to the city all day long. I definitely dont have the energy for that any more...I need to be chauffered around with plenty of rest stops. lol

Tomorrow, if you see me in Tractor Supply with a very patient husband in tow...please come up and say hi! My picture is below...
Thats awesome! I have to go there aswell to pick up some goat feed. I liveless then 10 mins away from tractor supply!

Harborview, you know what he was doing with that branch....?
Building a nest.
Cooler than shiRt, but not in my yard anymore.

Suzanne, Black head, copper neck.
Actually as chicks, they are all black with some white on them. Too confusing.
I'll just make her some earrings.
Never mind.

My hubby bought me a wireless inside/outside web type camera for xmas. He set it up today and it is so cool! I love the ability to spy on our chickens and watch them interact. We are even able to capture still photos or video while watching. I can control the camera from my computer, make it pan etc. And the dang thing even has night vision. Here is a still shot of the black silkie boy we brought home from Virginia after Thanksgiving....who by the way is healthy as of today! woo hoo!
