Here we go again...   Passover is Monday night and 16 relatives will be here.  Some for a week;  some for the night, some others for three or four days.  One of my daughters volunteered for the first time ever to do all the cooking for the Monday night Seder meal.   That's huge for me folks!!    Usually takes me four days just to cook for that one meal.  There are SO many courses for that supper.      I am feeling incredibly free and so lucky.   She's playing it very close to her vest and hasn't revealed the menu, but I'm sure it will include soup, gefilte fish and some matzah casseroles and a main course meat, probably lamb or brisket.

So for the rest of the dinners for the week, I spent today and yesterday cooking:  I roasted about eight big meaty turkey wings in orange marmalade;  made about a gallon of Chicken Fricassee of wingettes, stomachs, chicken meatballs and boneless thighs and onions and lots of garlic, a gallon of a tomato-sauced potted chicken, and about a half gallon of chicken stew in a creamy white sauce and I froze it all.   Also cooked up 18 hardboiled eggs. And roasted one egg for the ceremonial platter.   The freezer is full of porterhouse steaks that I'll broil with a coating of yellow French mustard and lots of worstershire sauce.   Freezer also has lots of fish fillets ready for sauteeing: Swai, Flounder, and Tilapia.

For breakfasts and lunches for the week there will be matzah brei, salami and eggs, borscht with potatoes and sour cream, gefilte fish, and for the constant snacking there's lots of cheeses, both hard and soft.    Also charoses spread on matzah (chopped apples and walnuts flavored with cinnamon, brown sugar and sweet red wine. My FAVORITE !)  Yams, boiled white baby potatoes, steamed parsnips, boiled celery, steamed zucchini, lots of green salad.

Chocolate covered matzah and chocolate and nut macaroons for desserts.  Canned red sweet cherries in syrup too.

And last but not least , real egg creams made with Fox's Ubet chocolate syrup, whole milk and icy cold club soda.  Maybe if I have time, I'll try to find and buy a genuine bottle of seltzer for shpritzing into the eggcreams.  Yay.  That would be wonderful.

I spent about two hours today darning my big white tablecloth.  After using it on Thanksgiving, I brought it to a hand laundry.  Opened it yesterday, spread it on the dining room table and found FIVE quarter and nickel sized holes torn out.   *&#@!**!!

But the darning worked out well and blended into the cloth nicely.   Three holes darned today.  Will do the other two tomorrow.

Wishing you all Sweet and Delicious Passover Seders, and/ or Happy Sumptuous Easter Dinners;  whatever your pleasure.  And all of you surrounded by loving family and friends.
-Carolyn252 (as soon as the temperatures climb out of the forties, I'm gonna scrub the ChickArena, shovel out the year's worth of Deep Litter, and add my two little Easter Eggers to the flock.   Roberta/Chicken Fairy Godmother has been fostering them for me for the past four months!!  I am SO tired of this endless winter!)

Carolyn,
I am blown away by what you do for your family. After reading your post I have to go raid the pantry...I'm hungry now.

Morning All
Well my husband and neighbors are definitely going to have me admitted.i was out in that snow the other day planting peas.i can't stand it any more.the girls hate me 'cause I fenced off their playground .i have to set up a big sand/ dirt box for them next week.
My sons girlfriend found out that she will be doing her residence at St. Christopher's Children's Hospital in Philadelphia and yes he is quitting his job and going with her.needless to say my husband is crazy. I'm just concerned because in Jan. we will no longer be able to keep him on our insurance.hopefully he'll be able to find a job right away(wishful thinking on my part) .
Well out to tend to the girls.
Suzanne if you need any help just give me a call.do you have someone to take care of your girls while you are in VT ? Something old, blue, borrowed?I'm excited for you.

I have a friend who only works part time. She lives about 4 blocks away and has chickens in her yard. I'm going to see if she can keep an eye on things for me.

I just listed my crocheted chicks on the BST forum. They have been pretty hot around here, so thanks to Maggie's inspiration, I decided to reach out to the chicken community. As I told Maggie, the profits from the chicks are paying for a good chunk of the wedding.

Next up, crocheted mice clip-ons. I'll keep you posted...

Success!!! Yesterday, I found the last remaining seltzer bottling plant left in Brooklyn. It's the Gomberg Seltzer Works, Inc.

See the video at

And/or see their website at http://www.brooklynseltzerboys.com/

Spoke with one of the owners, Kenny; he gave me the name and phone number for a couple of his still extant seltzer-deliverymen. And one of them, Paul, came to my house the same day that I phoned him and he delivered an old wooded crate with six vintage glass bottles of seltzer. I'm ecstatic. Amazing!!! When I was a little girl in Brooklyn (that's over 70 years ago, folks), pretty much everyone living in the neighborhood had a regular monthly or weekly delivery of seltzer. We also had a weekly deliveries of a HUGE block of ice for our kitchen's icebox. The iceman would take his sharp icepick (looked like an awl) and chip away a chunk just the right size for each family's icebox. We little kids would stand on the sidewalk, near the back of his truck, and try to catch the ice chips that would come flying off as he chipped away. When he was done, he'd fling a thick leather cowhide onto his shoulder and heft the enormous, very heavy, iceblock on top of it and carry it quickly into the next kitchen on his route.

Sigh.... memories!

Gonna make me some eggcreams this week for sure. Soon as the grandkids get here for Passover.

Carolyn Where in Brooklyn did you grow up? I grew up in Brighton Beach near Grady Park. As a teen I worked in a little shop that sold newspapers, candy & stuff on Neptune Ave & Ocean Pkwy called Joe V's near Lincoln HS that made the best egg creams! Had one in Huntington not too long ago where they had a big sign bragging that they were made like in Brooklyn but No Way. I watched her make it & knew right away she had no clue how to make one. I was so disappointed
