So I pulled 3 deer ticks off of my little man yesterday. Today-he's got a bullseye. UGH!! Last thing I want to do is have to have the argument tomorrow with the doctor. He needs 6 weeks on antibiotics and I know the doctor is going to give me a hard time. Many doctors are completely ignorant of Lyme, and try to adopt a wait and see attitude-which can kill a Lyme patient-quite literally.

I'm writing a letter to the little league where i found several crawling on me too.

Take a few good photographs of the bullseye. Up close shot and whole body part shot. Today's newspaper in one of the shots, showing the date. Nothing like documented proof that you didn't "imagine" the bullseye. Bring the photos to the doctore. Also, bring printouts from the web on why the extended antibiotics are necessary. Bring an adult with you to be a witness to the doctor refusing your request for the meds. If the doc plays the ambivalence card, tell him that you understand that there are two acceptable views on the matter and that as the parent responsible for this child, your vote MUST count. Medical treatment choices don't have to be made on the basis of which ones are used more than any others, the choice just has to be a reasonable, acceptable choice among doctors in the community. I'm not a lawyer; I'm just sayin'...

Well done Carolyn! Too and we don't have Frontline like our dogs and cats....Does Deep Woods Off work for ticks??? WhenI was In the woods, it was long sleeves and pants tucked into our shoes but this is summer.

I took pictures right away! (I'm big on that) I sent them to a few of my friend WITH Lymes (It's amazing how many people I know with it) and they all replied with fear for my little guy. There's a Lyme clinic at SBU, which is rather local to me, so if my pediatrician refuses to prescribe 6 weeks of meds, I'll just go right there. I'm pretty vocal about my kids and their health and well being so while I dislike having to prepare for a fight-I have no problem doing it.

Carolyn-thanks so much. Your advice is right on.

CheekyChick, I'm wishing good things for your son. Hoping he can get the care he needs and either recovers soon or simply has no reaction to the bite. TBDs are so problematic.

Hoping all goes well Rosie.

My BIL had Lyme and it's not to be fooled around with. It's getting really bad around here as our deer population grows.

Now his 17 year old son has West Nile virus which then ended up lowering his immune system and he is battling mono as well. Poor guy has lost 15 lbs. Can't work out or do sports either. He is miserable.

compared to what I just caught my own girl doing. So I went away for the weekend and had chicken sitters. My father tells me that he stopped in and caught three hens eating their own eggs. He didn't stop them, just thought they were thirsty and ate their own eggs

!!!.
Soooo long story short I have filled eggs with sand (we already had rocks in the nest box) and I have a few eggs blown that I plan to fill with mustard. I also hung a curtain in their nest box. What kills me is that I just built this box for them maybe a month ago because I thought they looked crammed in their old boxes and that my BR was being a "B" and not letting others use it. May switch back to the smaller cramped boxes that didn't allow more than one in at a time.

Oh man, sounds like some serious SHIrT going on around here. Sorry to everyone who is having troubles. Hope they get better soon.

I had my brother's big wedding out in Montauk this weekend and it was amazing! The most beautiful wedding I have ever been to.

While we were away, 6 of my shipped Cochin eggs hatched. One is a Rhode Island Red, not happy about that. Watch it be the only girl. UGH!

So, we went to the doctor, who said almost immediately that they were going to treat him. However, due to his young age (7) they cannot prescribe Doxy, and they don't need to give him 6 weeks worth of a/b's either. (I did check on this with my Lymie friends and they agreed) he is on 21 days of Amoxil.

The doctor said he should not show any sign of Lyme. I will be making a few calls in the morning to make sure the proper protocol is definitely being followed.

Thanks for all the kind words!
