Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

They are like the side blinders used on horses in the old days, but instead they block the view directly in front of a chicken. I know someone here on BYC glued little craft "googly eyes" on the front of her painless peepers. Silly, but cute.

Anybody know of someone in need of a gorgeous pure black silkie cock? Roberta do you have any contacts?

Grandson of "Monster" (Amy Jo Piehls "famous" rooster) is in need of a new home. He is just a year old, from a pure black pen and is deep glossy black with green sheen. My special needs daughter can not catch him since he prances around like king of the pen and is a bit of a cranky pants. Once we pick him up, he is very gentle. He is sitting on my lap in the kitchen as I type. These photos taken in the sunlight don't do his color justice. Willing to ship from 12601 if the weather holds out otherwise local pickup. Would like to send him off to a new home tomorrow as we are reconfiguring the coop layout. I am putting up a classified if BYC will let me using Tapatalk.

Littlecritters, Thank you for the pinless peepers suggestion. I'll bring that up with my fiance to see what he thinks. GORGEOUS silkie boy! Especially nice that you can have him on your lap, what a superb temperament he has.

Thank you everyone regarding Gertie. I do love her, but she's blocking the girl at the bottom of the peck order from going into the coop at night, and leaving in the morning. We don't have a set-up to accomodate a separation, and we will need to integrate the 2 bantams eventually.

So my eggs came!!! Now, my question is this: do I wait until after dark like I did with the chicks, to put them under her?

Now I'm gonna be a nervous nelly for the next 3 weeks. Ugh!!

Cheeky Chick, Perhaps you might stash them under her when she's asleep, just to be sure. What breed are the eggs?

Anyone a Buff Orpington fan? I want to get only just a few chicks which absolutely must be sexed pullets, so I guess that means a hatchery. Which hatchery might have friendly, mellow, good-natured Buff Orps? Temperament is everything to me in selecting this future feathered family member.

Whichever chick we end up keeping will be spoiled and adored. I even have the feeling she's going to be named "Honey." Ideas for a good source? I'm in no rush. The Riverhead Agway has Buff Orps through July, (from Mt. Healthy, they said) but, I don't want to try to manage 6 chicks at a time again. Ideas? Thoughts?

They're Black Australorps.

I got Lovey, my BO (who I love dearly) from Long Island Poultry. He's located in Flanders. Nice guy, Wayne, and I got great chicks from him. He's on Facebook, if you have an account. I'll look for his number. He also has no minimum, so you can get as many or as few as you want! His are sexed as well.
