Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I am so sorry to hear this!
With all of the rain we have been having, there is a good chance that some kind of nasty goo has spawned in the water in the runs.
I know my girls drink that goo, even with fresh water on hand.
Cocci is a good diagnosis, but anything else can also be thrown into the equation.
Were they on medicated feed this week?
I haven't been paying attention to all the ages of everyone's peeps.

Yes, I have extra emergency kits on hand. I am in Ridge. They are $25.00

If you want to have them tested, they need to be refrigerated, NOT frozen, and the Cornell lab is in Eastport.

Maggie, if you still want those feed bags, I have a baby shower in Staten Island on July 20.
Karls Klipper restaurent, 40 Bay St. I have no idea how close it is to you.

I'm just going to toss a thought out here. You said you filled plastic eggs with sand and mustard. Are all pieces of the plastic eggs accounted for? Did they possibly break the plastic and eat the sharp pieces?

Just another thought, regarding the sand in the dummy eggs-- was it the safe, washed playground sand, or something else? Some sand has sharp tiny pieces of matter in it, and some sand may say silica-free. I had to consider this when adding sand to my brooder. Could the sand in the mustard have been ingested, and had anything such as sharp matter in it?

Sally, my heart breaks for you, for your loss, and for your confusion right now in trying to solve such an upsetting mystery. Your girls are so very loved, so very well cared for. May this be the very end of any losses, and may your flock glow with health and vigor.

Hey Roberta!
I know the place, you'll enjoy. I used to work close by it. I've marked my calendar.

Sallysec, sorry to hear about your birds and I'm sorry that I offer no clues to the situation. I have a friend who is a vet and keeps chickens too. She has necropsied birds for me.

On another note, I came up with some new tee shirt designs and wanted to show everyone them. There is another that says I talk to chickens and you know what? I do!

I've been working on making friends with my chick. I made this video 2 days ago. She was terrified at first, not accustomed to people or handling, but within an hour, we were buddies. Now she gets excited and starts chirping when I make the popping noises. Love her!! (Well, crossing my fingers it's a "her". It'll be a sad day if I ever have to give her up.)

Good morning all,
Sallysec, how are the rest of you chickens? Hope they are all well.

My one polish is still breathing through her mouth and coughing(more like squeaking ). No other birds showing symptoms as of this morning.

I saw the most spectacular rainbow yesterday . Ran in the house, got my camera but of course the batteries were dead.

Hope everyone gets to be outside today 'cause it is fantastic .

queenchick, one of the things I've used that has helped clear up respiratory stuff is Probios dispersible powder, added to water. It's just a bunch of different strains of probiotics, and it must be mixed fresh daily, but it helps the immune system fight things off. Just a thought. Or not! Anyway, Agway in Riverhead carries it.

thanks for asking queen, I hesitate every morning now. They are all there. Yesterday it was looking really bad I got the corid and just started dosing everyone. Today so far everyone looks slightly better. I honestly didn't expect my last EE to make it through the night but she is there this morning. Yesterday I was headed out to get the corid and I noticed everyones color looked pretty weak. I am hoping with the seven day treatment that everyone will recover.

Thanks again for all your insight and Roberta I will be headed to long island later in the summer, if the offer still stands I will be buying the first aid kit from you. I would so much rather be prepared then have to drive like mad after searching for a medication.
