Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

They have to be pure, and it not as easy to tell as the cream legbars are. Actually looking at the chicks today all fluffed I think 2 are girls. I hope. I really love Welly eggs so dark and some speckled. My Welly hen lays almost everyday.

I have 3 days left...I hope...

I keep thinking about it, going out to the henhouse, making sure Lovey is still sitting on the eggs. I'm pretty sure she thinks I've gone and completely lost my mind.

The girl welsummers have a dark distinct line on their head and eyeliner.
I'll try and get a pic of mine later but here is a pic I found online.

Girl is on the right boy in middle

Thanks! I'm going to go take a look to see what I got!

One boy & one girl :)

the waiting is so hard!

Good morning everyone! Sorry I have been MIA, but between the health issues and work, I haven't felt much like getting on here (I did read the posts from time to time though). I have 3 broodies on about 20 eggs that are all hatching out this week (they are for a friend of mine who doesn't want to order chicks and doesn't care about breeds). The first one that popped out has orange/yellow non-feathered legs and is solid white! I have never had a solid white chick. I have no idea who the mamma or daddy is. I have a dark brahma roo and a barred rock roo over a mix of hens. I think the daddy has to be the barred rock given the legs, but who is the mamma? The only non feather legged hens I have are speckled sussex (these have white skin though), barred rocks, brown leghorn, wellsummer (I don't think it was one of these eggs), ameraucana (slate legs). Whatever it is it is adorable! I love the mixed chicks, they are like little surprises.

I have been putting my seed packets together for my late summer planting (for late fall harvest). Does anyone want to do a seed exchange? I don't always use the full packet of seeds. I ordered from southern exposure this year for my spring seeds, I will probably repeat for the fall garden. The stuff I put in has germinated really well (except for the cantaloupe). Even the organic corn germinated well.

Good morning Christina, I've missed you.i haven't decided if I'm doing a fall garden yet. I'll let you know since I have an excess of seed also. What did that little bantam end up being. Both mine ended up being girls (for now)

We're on our third drug as of last night for my little polish. Still mouth breathing and coughing/ wheezing .

The bantam turned out to be a little girl so is Nemo. That NN is huge. The others are doing great too. Sorry to hear about the polish. What do you think it is? Could it be fungal?

went outside to feed treats to the hens and noticed 2 baby chicks were missing, not sure when they went missing, could have been yesterday afternoon/evening or this morning. I feel terrible right now. 1 was a rhode island red and the other was a cochin. I've looked everywhere.

More than likely it is but fungal drugs are just brutal , usually worse than the fungus itself.
I'll keep you posted.
